Got my first spot 8 months ago at the back of my head. It’s my only spot I think. But today in the shower I noticed that my thigh had a rectangular section of hair that was shorter then the rest. This area is exactly where my phone would be if I were wearing pants. So I’m wondering if that could friction and rubbing off my pants could cause the hairs in that area to become shorter then the rest.

My question is let’s say worst case that the shorter hairs on my thigh indicate alopecia, what kind of alopecia do I have? Is it still areata? Does this mean I will get AU since it went from my scalp to my body? Or has anyone had areata involving both body and scalp without going to full blown AU?

Thanks

I would say that is friction rubbing it off. When I started losing my hair because of AU, my skin went smooth as could be with no hair whatsoever. Even the AA (which is what I started with) was just completely bald.

It sounds like AA. It can happen anywhere on the body. I don't have bald patches on my head but diffuse thinning there. I've lost 50% of the hair on my head. But over my entire body, I have bald patches. The hair pulls away or falls out with just slight friction or if it becomes itchy. I have alopecia areata incognita (diffuse alopecia areata). The hair in many areas grow very slowly so they are always short, or they dont grow at all. Areas where they fell out, will grow back in only to fall out again in a month or so. Again, this is on my body, not my head. Have you been to a doctor?
