So I have had AA for a bit over a year and a half now had loads of small patches of hair loss it has now all grown but one large patch still remains on the back of my head this was the first patch of hair loss which occurred and has been there the longest period of time.
I have tried almost everything for my hair to grow back apart from steroid injections kinda getting sick and tired of wearing hats all the time and I'm very self conscious about myself especially being a university student many people say the best part of there lives is in university and for me well my second year and third year (which I'm in now) has been a nightmare because of this problem haven't been able to go out much and the amount of times I've wanted to speak to a nice girl just to get to know them or to ask them out for a date or something this hair problems always been holding me back because I'm self conscious and always worry about what people think of me even though I shouldn't be but that's just the way I am.
So what's next with me? well I'm thinking to speak to my GP about trying out the steroid injections just wanted to know whos tried it and has it been effective for you? After I finish this year of university I'm going to be looking for a full time job and I'm worried about actually getting a job because of this hair problem don't know what to do any more. :(

I am really sorry to hear about your AA :( I am 33 yr old woman and was also diagnosed with AA almost 3 years ago. It's been a constant struggle, and I have literally tried everything, from steroid injections, accupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, onion juice, rubbing garlic, all types of shampoos, and Rogaine. Mine was so bad that I was shaving it all and wearing wigs for a few months because of my extra large crop circles :(
I have to say that I have only seen the most positive regroth from Cortisone, and I know that it is the worst to continuously take. Besides the injections (which are very painful) I was taking pills orally on 3 seperate occasions for up to 3 months each. The regrowth was quick, but the hair did continue to fall. I did have some side effects like hair growing in other areas (face, shoulders, back- which for a woman is not sexy) but I would definitely recommend this avenue if you haven't tried it yet.
It is really tough, an emotional rollercoaster really, and I cannot imagine what it is like to be going through it while at Uni... All I can say is that the right woman will look beyond the hair, and men who are bald are sexy!
I wish I had more positive advice to give you... stay strong and look fro support through sites like this. Sometimes it feels good just to vent!
Best of luck xo
