Like many others, I spent a bundle on wigs which didn't work out. Not because they are not beautiful, but because they were too big. I have two which I would like to find new homes for. Both worn less than several hours.

One is Estetica Kendra (paid $170)

The other Estetica Flora (paid $300+)

Is there any vehicle for making my pieces available to other alopecians?

I have three wigs in my closet that have never been worn. One of them is "Scorpio" by Revlon. It's not my color & I don't like the way it looks on me. It's been in my closet for 2 years now!
I am soooo with you all on passing on the wigs....I have a closet full, and that is not a lie. I would try them on at a wig store, and you know, buy it and it is yours forever. Yes, I know, it would be hard to trust people in this world to really sell you a wig that was only worn a few hours...and hard again to trust that the person selling the "second-hand" wig was hygenically a clean person, and didn't have anything strange that they could pass on....but, really, when you go into a wig store, and worse yet, buy online and return....nobody really knows what you have going on ...even tho a wig shop makes you put on a wig cap, by then end of trying multiple wigs, it is hardly staying on your head at that point. I too have put mine and craigslist and gotten maybe one hit....I don't know how to sell on ebay, I wish I did....
Hi. I thought I'd chime in on selling on ebay. I have bought and sold handbags there for 4 or 5 years. You can go to ebay's site and nose around the selling process. They walk you through really well. You have to take good pictures and detailed explanations are a must. Be forewarned though. Resell prices on wigs are not high. Search your wig name and brand and see what comes up. You have to wash the wig before sending it out and from what I have read there are no returns due to hygienic reasons. I have bought wigs there and the luck I have had has been hit or miss.
I believe there are some rules about selling wigs due to hygiene issues. You can't sterilize a wig but you can wash it well. I tried to sell mine on craigslist but got no hits. I think I will donate it instead to an organization that provides wigs for people with alopecia. I am starting hte process with Women's Hair loss Initiative. http://womenshairlossinitiative.com/wp/ This organization just helped my friend with applying for scholarship.
Wigsupport has a "new-to-you" for sale section. Give it a try.
Good luck!
Can you alter them and make them smaller? If you have a wig store near you they should be able to alter them.....I have had to have a few altered.
Yes, Petra, but at what cost??? Same goes for getting someone to cut and thin a wig....OK, so I already spent the initial money to purchase a wig, and then to find it really is too big, and too much hair, etc...and then to pay someone to "fix" it, and end result, I still maybe won't wear it.....now I have spend xxx amount of dollars MORE on a bad wig. I wish I could find a synthetic lace front wig that is flat to my head and not wefted AT ALL.....I search so often for wigs, it is ridiculous, then I can't even remember what I saw the next time!!!
Yeah, I hate the whole wig buying thing. I was told at one wig shop that the manufacturer leaves extra room in the wig for peoples hair?????? I have bought all of mine at wig shops and they altered them for free. Even when I get the same style wig they seem to all fit a little different. I went the custom route about 15 years ago and had a really bad experience so I don't even want to go there, especially since they are so expensive.
Last time I tried on wigs I tried on a lace front wig.....wow I was pretty impressed, I wonder how well they hold up though?
Ok, makes sense...yes, the wig shop will alter for free, no doubt, because...if you go online to check the price on the very same wig, it is so much less than at the wig shop, you had better have them do some customization and thinning, or whatever you need. Problem is, sometimes after leaving the shop is when you realize it needs this, and the wig shop is way tooo far to drive all the way back...that has been my problem...so it never gets done! I also had a so-called custom experience that cost me $2000 for something hideous, and I couldn't return it, oh, she would order me another, and another until she got it right....that process would have taken eons, and it was what she called an integration piece, which looked like a long large dead rat on my head, glued to my head...it was horrific...supposedly it was a match for my own hair, yeah right...was she blind or was see hoping that I was?
HA HA, I'm not laughing at you :-) . I kinda had the same experience. Tried 3 times to get it right and I finally ended up taking her to small claims court. I finally got another custom made piece from someone else, but he didn't know how to style it. I finally found someone that could actually style wigs and then the hair started falling out at the top. My synthetic wigs last soooo much longer and so much easier to care for. It would be nice if they did fit better.
I thought about the court thing, trust me...but the job I had left me No time to go thru all of that mess. Glad you got a chuckle...dead rat..LOL
In my opinion, I don't really think the hygiene issue for wigs is the same as for other articles. Somehow, I would more readily wear a used wig than a used pair of panties. Even pierced earrings can be sterilized. Like stated earlier, a good washing is all that is really needed. Unless a person had open and/or oozing sores while wearing the wig, most would be fine to pass on.
I like the idea of passing on our unsuitable wigs to other alopecians. We are the 'forgotten' when it comes to hair loss. Just because it's not life threatening doesn't mean its not life altering.
