When will the shedding stop?

Ahhh!! I have gone from one patch in December to two in February to six now and so much shedding in the past two weeks that it horrifies me to brush my hair!!! Will it stop?? I know I know. No one knows. But has anyone had if stop before complete hair loss? And if so how mang weeks or months did the shedding last? I went shopping last week and bought a hair piece. I am worried all the hair will be gone before it even arrives. This alopecia thing is crazy. :)

Thanks for all the good information and positivity on the site. It is wonderful.

Everyone is different, so no one can answer your question. I went through horrible shedding periods, and now I realize that most of it was coming from the nape of my neck, now smooth as a baby's bottom, and the rest, just diffuse hair loss. I hope I never shed like I did in the past ever again. I was terrified to wash my hair every night, but not washing it doesn't stop the shedding, as when you do wash it, you lose twice as much if you waited two days. I read some people's hair totally grew back. Lucky them. And some, not so lucky.

Thanks so much, I am still hoping it is just diffuse hair loss and it ENDS!!! It's true, washing and brushing is terrifying. But if you don't you really just have double the loss the next day. It's terrible. I just want it to end.....
