white eyebrow roots

i have a random question, i was wondering if someone can explain this to me. i noticed that where i have alopecia (the hairs that come from that section) have complete white tipped roots whereas other areas that are not affected are my normal dark black pigmentation? is because those roots aren't getting the nutrients to grow strong rooted that they turn white and eventually fall out?
