Hello

I dont have Alopecia, but my hair has been falling out rapidly lately, likely due to an unstable thyroid (trying new medication now, so we'll see). But also may be complicated by my recent starting of rogaine, which is supposed to cause initial shedding. At any rate, I am at that point where I need to where a baseball cap or a wig out in public (at least temporarily but maybe permanently, depending, which I'm ok with)

I've always had baby fine hair, and now at 54 it's quite thin. Anyway, on to my wig questions. I bought this monofiliament wig for around 250, which mostly matches my hair color and style, and I like it ok. It's not as comfortable as not wearing a wig, but I guess as far as wigs go it's pretty comfortable I think. Problem is it's way too thick. I did get a petite size as I have a small head, but it's still to big and the hair part is too thick. Can these wigs be thinned? If so how do I find the right person to do it?

Also - I've gathered from reading these posts, if I want something more comfortable I would have to shave my head so a capped wig could be glued to stuck on with tape? Is this right? And people actually sleep and shower in these? I'm trying to find the most comfortable solution going forward. Right now my head is full of hair but extremely thin. Mostly in the crown area and the sides. But thinning all over.

Thanks in advance for any insight and advice. This is a great forum.

I have the gripper sports wig from Follea it is AMAZING .

I have complete hair loss so I wear the sport and because of the medical grand silicone strips all through the wig it has complete security .If someone was to pull and really yank at my my hair it's not going to come off. I can even have my head under water and it stays put. I have tired synthetic wig , human hair lace wigs , NZ made suction wigs and the Gripper by far in my opinion is the very best .

If you don't have complete hair loss you can wear the gripper cool which has the medical grade silicone but only of the perimeter . So still has security and will stay on VERY well just not as well as the one of a kind Gripper sport.

Oh and I would just like to mention I don't sell this product or am I related to anyone how is . I thought I would just mention this to you as there are a lot of people on this site that will give you loads and loads of information about there preferred wig type and and lots of negatives about others only to find out that they actually sell that type of preferred wig type . Be careful Maryhunter and the best way to find what wig will suit you best is advise from actual wig wearers and ones that don't sell them xxx lots of love and take care

Thank you Sophie. This is great information. Thanks for the head's up.

Wow I was looking at the Follea catalog and prices whew - so $3000 -ish for a short wig. That's quite an investment, but if it works great and you don't have to worry about it then it's worth it. That's amazing that it is so secure for you. So do you think this hair looks more natural than the synthetic wigs? The Follea is also synthetic isn't it?

I hope you don't mind I have copied and pasted a bit from my other post because I'm lazy and I'm feeding baby .

And yes so much more natural I can't stand synthetics I have only worn them as a last resort . For me they are horrible . I couldn't wear them now because I am to use to REAL comfit with my Gripper .

And I know it's a little pricey but in saying that I bought the 12" and it still worked out cheaper than the ones I use to buy before this . The New Zealand made vacuumed wigs. And those one you can't try it on before you buy it . And then you don't receive the wig until 3 months later lol sometimes longer

The 100% European human hair (which I did have some concern hearing it was slightly processed) is just AMAZING , truly beautiful . It has complete movement ,its soft, smooth and when comparing the actual hair with some of my "virgin hair un proceeded wigs" the only difference I had found was that I liked this hair better. Surely this "slightly processed" process In my eyes is a good thing .

I pulled this off their website for you it the one that I have .

Sport Featuring Follea’s fabulous European ponytail hair.
∙ Gently processed in house in small batches to protect the natural character and beauty

of our hair.
∙ Double drawn for consistent hair length and added volume.
Follea’s Gripper-2 available now from Beverly Hills stock:
∙ Gripper Cool or Gripper Sport.
Ohh just a thought you should check out their toppers , I wish I had one of these when I was in high school when I still has 50% of my hair. It would have made life so much easier

Lol I'll stop stalking you nowxx

oh no you're not stalking - lol. I very much appreciate any information I can get. This is all new to me. Right now I dont think I can afford the human hair route - at least for now, unfortunately. But I will continue to investigate. Thanks again

I have a solution for you and that is to use a hair wig. You can pick a best hair wig online and live your life happily.

If you don't find the time then use this http://wigsbycc.com/

Thank you Aimee - this is great advice. I got my wig from wigs.com and the style is 'Risk' by Ellen Wille. They had free shipping and free returns so I figured what the heck :) It's surprisingly similar to my own style and is a petite, which is good because I have a small head. And I got the color ok excepts it's a little darker than my natural. Wonder if it can be lightened a bit too. I'll ask the wig stylist when I find them !!! Thanks!!!
