Wig restoration and new wigs in the North Jersey / NY metro area

Some of this has been discussed before, but hoping you can help me with a few items. I wear a wig for work only, about 10 hrs a day, Monday thru Friday. Weekends, gym, etc I just wear a bandana.

- what brands of wig have the medical grade silicone in the cap? I am AU and started wearing a follea - I really like the cap construction and security of it and it looks very natural as well, but these wigs do not have a long life and I would like to try another type. (I know Of Freedom as well, but the nearest rep seems to be about a 6 hr drive from me... See next question)

- can anyone provide me with some suggestions on wig shops in the New York City metropolitan area that have human hair wigs with the silicone in the cap? I've been to two in the city and I'm not that impressed. I'm looking for anything that is in Manhattan/north Jersey or within a2hr drive of manhattan.

- regarding wig fixing / restoration - after about 6 months of wearing the follea, the hairline was thinning significantly (we'll call this wig 1). So I went to a follea rep in manhattan and purchased another one (wig 2), which is currently about 6 months old now and holding up pretty well. I'm estimating about another 6 months of good wear. So I took wig 1 to the shop, and asked if he could have the hairline fixed. He said if I sent it back to follea it would cost a ton of money and would take 6-8 weeks minimum to be returned. So I asked if he could fix it and he said he could, and he did, for about $200. All seemed good, except I stupidly did not inspect it very closely when I picked it up, it seemed great. Fast forward 3-4 months, I took it out today so I could wash and style it bc I wanted to start rotating between wig 1 and wig 2. After I washed wig 1, I looked at the hairline and there were lots (like a hundred) hairs that had poked through the lace, like little loops on the underside of the cap. Wig 2 has zero hairs coming through on the underside, so I can only think that it was the fix. I'd like, if it's possible, to get it fixed (again), given that this wig was 3k, I can't imagine just letting it go after 6 months of wear. Should I try to get it fixed again or just give up on it? If I should get it fixed, any recommendations in the NYC metro area?

Thanks in advance for your help
Kelly

Hi

I'm sorry your experience has not been as you had hoped.  I would suggest you contact Follea or at least the Representative that sold you your Follea wig and explain your concerns.

Hi Be Kind.  Good to hear from you.  Check out Fortune Wigs web site.  They have a new silicone grip wig that might work for you.  I have several toppers from them and really love their hair.  Also the customer service is amazing and they are super nice and very  helpful.  They are located in Brooklyn NY and in NJ, but I have only dealt with them online.   They are not as pricy as follea, but the hair really nice and mine have held up very well.  Might be worth a try.

Kelly, so sorry to hear yet another person with wig aggravation due to poor quality. True, my Follea also was not worth the money. The industry is ripping off people with alopecia areata.  My suggestion? This is a consumer protection issue. Document every single thing from the moment you begin to invest in another high-end wig. Then you have everything prepared to create a case. Submit to your credit card issuer if they have a policy for "product not as advertised". If you don't get satisfaction there, move right along and file with the BBB.(Better Business Bureau). That gets the attention of the bad apple vendors out there.  And do your own publicity of which vendors are not standing behind their products. As I see it, our community grows stronger when women who are ripped off talk openly and name names.
