Hi. I am the mother of an adult male who has had alopecia since he was 4 years old. He will be 30 this year. He had alopecia universalis for 9 years, then grew back his body hair but has very little hair on his head. He wears a wig for work and when he goes out. He is very short and petite...my husband was short and so am I. He can't fit into wigs for males...his head is too small, he wears a petite cap. When he first had alopecia we bought him wigs, and there was a selection for boys. He needed a new wig a few years ago, and when he went looking, there were only one or two wigs made for boys, and they aren't in styles he wants. So why don't manufacturers make wigs for boys? He has to buy a woman's wig and get it cut down, but there aren't any wig stylists in our area that he is happy with...he's tried two already and they did not cut his wig the way he wanted it...they work mostly with women. Boys and young men have alopecia too...so why are there no wigs available for them. He doesn't want a human hair wig, just one he can look good in. We live outside Youngstown, OH and there aren't even a lot of wigs shops and services available. It's very frustrating for him, and it's painful for me to see him go through a struggle just to get a nice, affordable wig that looks decent on him.
