Hello everyone!
I've been reading for the last couple of weeks and decided to participate to see if there's anyone like me, who really doesn't have a lot of money to spend on wigs and with whom can share the issues associated with alopecia.

I participated some in the black hair media forum but it was difficult as most of the people there didn't like to share their sources of hair.
I also realized most of the people here (or some) have AU and tend to use vacuum units.
This post is for those who prefer (for any reason) to use lace units.

So, I'll start sharing my experience so far and the online sites I've bought my units

California lace wigs: used this vendor for three years but my last two units were crap. Not sure what happened but really disappointed with them. Hair quality was really low. I ordered Malaysian but they sent me overly processed Indian.

Wigs royal: it's ok. Hair is coarse. They say they have European hair, but that's Indian, so beware. Hair caps are fine. Hairline is debse and you need to tweeze a lot.

Rex (Chinese vendor) bad experience. They sent me horrible hair.

So, I was planning on buying a unit from Ruth's beauty but read that the business is closed now and they're taking orders and keeping the money without sending the wigs. Terrible.

Online sites that seem to have decent wigs for $350:

Sassy secret
Rpg show
Finelacewigs
Bestlacewigs
Silkawigs (I ordered a unit today so I'll update when I receive it)

Online sites a little more expensive (around $500)

Zara wigs
Gardeaux wigs

Have you tried any of those???

I hope you've found my post useful. I know how difficult it is to search online.

Have you heard of Uniwigs? Just found the site and the hair looks healthy but the parting doesn't look too realistic in the pictures.

Hello OnTheMoon!

I sent you a personal message. Did you get it?

I can assist you. Visit my Alopecia World Marketplace link and contact me: http://www.alopeciaworld.com/notes/Naturally_Yours_Boutique

Hello starshemya,

Thanks for the link to your wig site. I took a look at the units you have but it grabbed my attention all the pictures belong to other vendors. I've already seen those pictures in other online sites.

Thank you anyway!

Hi OnTheMoon!

Most "vendors" are sellers of the manufacturers who stock the same products but charge what they want. You can also get customized wigs with your own particular head shape and measurements.

As you can see, my prices are VERY competitive to what others are charging (for the same products).

Peace.

StarShemya

I've worn Raquel Welch wigs for about 4 yrs now. You know, the synthetic, $100-125 ones. Watched Youtube videos and taught myself to modify for comfort and fit (average are too tight and large are too large.) Always had lots of compliments on my hair / hairstyle.

AU got so bad in December, I shaved my head, so did a lot of research and just have finally discovered a method to keep my wigs secure on my head - silicone front pieces that are sewn in and double stick tape in the back. As far as I can find, Loris wigs is the only place that sells the silicone fronts -@ $12 each. The tape is a bargain from www.hairtape.com and hypoallergenic. I also wear a lot of scarves that I get on eBay for under a dollar each with free ship from Chinese sellers.

Just remember to not cook in a mono wig as heat / steam will make it melt. And, care of your wig will also help it to last longer: shampoo, condition, extra spray in conditioner, and hang upside down to dry. Mono wigs are permanently styled and will always be ready to wear with a little combing or a shake.

On the other hand, I just bought a RW human hair wig and then found that they have to be washed, cut & styled before wearing. Not just any hairdresser can work on wigs, and I've found that experienced wig stylists are hard to locate. I may have to wait until July when I'm in a city that has a stylist to get this one ready to wear.

Another thing I've found is that not all like wigs are created equal. I don't know about the brands you had listed, but you almost have to have the wig in hand or know the brand. Example: Rene' of Paris has nice wigs, but the front piece on the couple I have is terribly stiff, scratchy, and irritating on bald skin.

Best of luck in your wig quest.

Hi Hangster have you washed your RW human hair yet is dry after wash and is the lace front itchy like Jon Renau.

Thanks

I've had really good luck with XCSunny Wigs. I have four that I've been rotating in and out so I don't have too much wear and tear on one unit.

Hi everyone,

Hagster: when my hair started thinning, my first wigs were synthetic. They never lasted more than 1 or 2 months and I had to take them off to sleep since they were so itchy and uncomfortable.

Then, about 5 years ago, I started to use human hair lace wigs and I haven't used any synthetic since then. the reason why I like the lace front wigs is that they're extremely comfortable, I sleep on them, and they require ZERO work on them. I wash them every week but since I do like how they fit naturally, I don't curl them or style them at all.

Dolhead: good to know XCSunny wigs has quality units.

I'm still waiting on my silkawig unit but I honestly don't expect hight quality for the price.

My next unit will be a Zara one. They take almost 2 months to complete the order and I really needed another unit now after the disaster California Lace wigs did, so that's why I gave it a try to silkawigs.

I just ordered a couple of lace front human hair wigs, for the first time. Can i ask where you order yours, and do you get glue less wigs or lace front, or full lace? I do not want to sleep in mine, as i live in AZ and most of year it is too hot. I am tired of the quality of synthetics and short shelf life. Not to mention the high prices for a good synthetic wig. I cannot afford high price wigs, but it seems that lace front human hair is not too much more than a good synthetic. I am nervous about trying lace front, but it's time to try some thing new

Hi my name is Teresa and I would like to send you a direct message ,

Hi everyone, just an update on the unit I bought from silkawigs.
I paid $314 for a supposedly Brazilian virgin lace front wig, ombre, 16".
When I just got the unit and tried, i got really sad. It didn't suit me at all, the colors were horrible.
After I dye it, and cut it, it's another story. Still, I'm not really happy.
The hair is coarse and I think it's Chinese.
I'll never order from them again because I'm used to better hair and cap construction quality.
That's my two cents.
