I've found myself in a scary situation that could cause me a lot of embarrassment. I've been dating a guy for 10months now we met at work and most of our friends are work colleagues, so far things are great, but my female pattern baldness is not so great. I've been losing my hair for 5years now, I'm 25 and its really starting to show and thin out. My boyfriend notices hair everywhere all the time and even one time said "man your hair looks thin". I've never mentioned to him that I'm well aware of how much hair I'm losing on a daily basis. I feel like I should tell him, because its only going to get worse and I need someone who can hack being at my side if I decide to start wearing wigs.

What scares me is

1) rejection- everyone understands that

2) gossip- if my hair loss is a deal breaker for him, I'm afraid he'll go and tell everyone at work and then my private matter will be daily office gossip.

I'm so afraid of losing a good thing. I know if he's the right guy he'll accept me, but I have this gut feeling he won't.

How do you even go about telling someone this?

It's a risk you have to take if you want to see if he will stick around.  If you have a gut feeling that he won't accept it, then, trust it and break up with him.  It's up to you if it's worth it or not.

I agree with peachydown, you'll just have to tell him and see what happens. Maybe you could ease into, like the next time he says something about your thin hair (which in and of itself is kind of hurtful). Tell him you know it is thin and it is something that is on your mind, specifically what you will do if you continue to lose hair. It won't be easy, and I don't think it really ever gets any easier, but you probably are going to have tell him eventually. Good luck!

Hi

There will always be people who will not accept hair loss.

Unfortunately these insignificant and unimportant individuals are often owed an explanation.

Sit down and declare you suffer from hair loss.

Explain you want it kept private.

I really hope he is accepting of you. Hair should not be a dealbreaker. If he isnt accepting you derserve more. Get rid of the loser.
