Xeljnaz Coverage

I have been using Xeljanz since 2016 and it has completely reversed my Alopecia Areata with no side effects. During this time, my insurance has completely covered the cost of the medication.

At the end of last year, my insurance has disallowed the use of Xeljanz because they consider it "cosmetic". I have been filing appeal after appeal but to no avail. I am currently waiting for Xelsource, the financial aid department of Pfizer to advise if they can assist me with the exorbitant price of this medication (I believe the recent list price for a 3 month supply is close to $15,000!).

Does anyone have any suggestions on alternate sources that would not be so cost prohibitive to obtain the medication? As I tried to explain to my insurance company, it is not my expectation that I be provided this medication for free. I am willing to share some of the cost.

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Ho there - I would suggest you take a look at the very long Xeljanz discussion thread - a lot of people on there purchase generic tofacitinib from a pharamceutical company in Bangladesh called Beacon, I believe.

Thanks Ana. My wife who is a medical professional has advised that generic is not a good idea for Xeljanz. I do appreciate the tip though!
