I have had AA since I was 4... I was wondering how many adults on here who grew up with AA had their alopecia progress into AT or AU. I am afraid mine might progress...

Hi Larisa

i started out with AA when I was 13 and I am now 42. I have had AU and am now AT but I don't let it bother me anymore I am who I am and people just have to accept that. You are among friends here and we can all share how we feel with you and help support you through this time but please learn to laugh at yourself first. It's not easy but you will learn to cope...took me till I hit 40 lol then I was like who gives a s***t lol.
Hey Larisa - Same timeframe exactly for me ..... started at 13 and now Im 43. AA off and on . Im continually try to use the who gives a SH%%T mindset !! Keep smilin :)
Well, as you may know by now, alopecia is different from everyone. I have been wondering for many years now if there is anyone out there with alopecia like MINE. I've had alopecia for as long as I can remember. My preschool teacher's brought it to my parents' attention which finally led to a doctor's visit specifically for my hair, but I had bald spots since I was an infant that my family attributed to stuff like pulling, or rubber bands, or rough pillowcases, or any of the reasons babies have bald spots etc. (It can be quite normal for an infant to be missing hair sometimes). It has gotten worse as I have gotten older, but never progressed in my 23 years to totalis or universalis. I just thought I'd throw that little bit out there because I've always heard about it either "going away" for a period of months, years, or even forever, while others went AT or AU. I've never heard, yet, about someone who has had it as constant as I have.
I agree with Susan it is so unpredictable for everyone. Like am I the only person on here that only has hair where no woman wants hair. I have NEVER in 27 years lost my underarm or crotch hair. Sorry to be so out there with that just wondering if anyone else has this issue?
I hope Larisa you have a turn around for the better.
I have the same question... I have had AA for 25 years, and after having my children I find that it is harder and harder to keep any amount of hair on my head. Is it age? Is it hormones?
I am at the point where I am done with injections and the elidel, they no longr work, I am over 50% hair loss and I haven't had any regrowth in 4 months(with treatments) Where do I go from here?
T
I have had it since I was 6 months old, I don't know about progression but it seems to me to be completely arbitrary. I can start growing a patch on my head and my eyebrow will fall out, lately I have grown hair on my legs and the patch on my head fell out and my eyebrow came back. At some point you have to just let go of worrying about it because what will happen will happen. Good luck!
