"Tradition"... "Culture"... "A woman's most precious asset"... "Sign of perfect health"... in India, for a woman to have beautiful, thick and long hair symbolizes that she comes from a well-cultured, traditional Indian family! Probably that's the reason why people look us and gasp, laugh, ridicule, comment or sympathize. And probably that is the reason why most women get under so much depression that they decide to shut themselves up in the closed comfort of their homes, where at least no one judges them... well... most of the times!
Sadly, in our country, maximum people do not even know about alopecia! Here, if you are bald, you are either suffering from cancer OR (in cases where men or women shave their head) you are mentally unstable or you could be "too cool to be an Indian" or (don't be surprised) a drug addict!
I think it is time to come out in the open and let people know what alopecia is, especially in India... when they will understand, they will stop making fun! It is their lack of understanding and knowledge that they react in the manner they do!
