First of all I have never had much hair on my body, under arms or private areas. Yes, I had some but not alot. I have always had thin hair. My hair falls out and it may grow a little but continues to fall out, especially if I am under stress. I have small patches at the top and center of my scalp. Because there is sometimes tiny hairs on the patches people say it is going to grow in but it never has. Does this sound like Alopecia Areatha?

I think it is Alopecia Areata but in all honesty the exact terminology doesn't really matter. I had AA and now it is virtually AU. I had shaved my head for the second time due to AA when my body hair started falling out. I had lost about 60% or more of it and so I had the rest of it removed. It is much better now without any hair although I still have a few hairs where my eyebrows should be and now and then a few hairs pop up in different places. I was really hairy before (arms, legs, chest, back and of course private areas) and so having no hair at all is a really big change for me.

It's great!!!!!!
Did yours come on gradually or suddenly? Was it heredity or stress, illness related? As I said the doc said mines was heredetary but I found stress made it worse.
I was told by my Dermatologist, that Alopecia can worsen under stress, but he says the reason some research says stress, because its a catchall explanation, and the underlying causes of it are still unknown. Severe stress is bad in general for your overall health, not just for alopecia so if you can decrease/manage it, its always good. I think my alopecia has worsened over the last few years because of stress, but there could easily be other factors i think.
Stress is the contributing factor to so many ailments. If we are prone to losing hair I guess the stress would affect us more in that area.
It still amazes me how that can happen, one goes from being hairy to hairless. I have never had much hair on my body. However, until alopecia came I did have hair on my head. It was a decent enough length but always fine.
