So many conflicts have religion involved

The three major religions, christianity, islam, hindu, state they are forces for peace. All their creeds say so. Yet, in every conflict around the world people who claim to be members are going at each other - just because their religious beliefs differ and that leads them to act intolerantly, with hate and judgement of one another. I just don't get it.
