Hi everyone,

I am from Singapore, currently residing in San Jose. I have had androgenetic alopecia for about 10 years...thinking of either shaving it off or wearing a hair system.

Wondering if we can meet up to discuss frustrations, challenges of not having hair ?

I know of 2 local support groups thru www.naaf.org San Francisco and Stanford.

Not sure if there is one in San Jose.

Good luck!

That is true JeffreySF, but I was looking for a group more for androgenetic alopecia. I am going through a slow but painful loss of hair...

Hi ladies or gentlemen,

I'm new to the alopecia group and just found your comments.  I hope I am not being too forward to participate in the discussion.

Over 9 months ago, I lost more than half of my hair (depressing) and I was close to  buying a wig.  I researched and researched for 30 days.  If you do your own research and come back to reply, you may find out three things.  Hair loss is either heritary, or from stress, thyroid or DHT .   I estimate that over 60% of hair loss (men and women) is caused by DHT.  Read:

****************************

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a derivative or by-product of testosterone. Testosterone converts to DHT with the aid of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. While the entire genetic process of MPB is not completely understood, scientists do know that DHT shrinks hair follicles, and that when DHT is suppressed, hair follicles continue to thrive.

Hair follicles that are sensitive to DHT must be exposed to the hormone for a prolonged period of time for the affected follicle to complete the miniaturization process. Today, with proper intervention, this process can be slowed or even stopped if caught early enough.

What male pattern baldness sufferers inherit are hair follicles with a genetic sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a derivative or by-product of testosterone.

The solution is an all naturally based hair care line that's revolutionary and has only been out 2 years.  I'm surprised you California-ians have not heard of it.   This is a snippet of how Monat products address the DHT with 2 of their ingredients that are in every hair product.  There are 11 total that you can read more on in the link I am providing.

If you read THE SCIENCE OF MONAT, it just makes good sense.  My hair isn't back to full yet, but I am about 2/3 of the way there.  My stylist 2 weeks ago, took his camera and enlarged my scalp photo.  WE saw even more tiny hairs coming through. I am hooked.  A friend introduced me to Monat and I am sharing it with you all.

People are spending money in all the wrong places (dermataologists, wigs, hair transplants).  These products are naturally based and feed the scalp, which feeds the follicles, which feeds the hair bulb, which stabilizes the hair.  Bingo.  The hair is stronger and stops falling out.  Makes perfect sense.

Let me know if I can answer questions.  I'm also helping cancer patients who have lost their hair, so alopecia and hair loss from stress are not much different.

Blessings to everyone,

Barbara
