Maybe we should start our own support group!
Chris thanks for the tip on Mohair Salon - I will check it out.
Nikki - welcome to AW - this site has been a terrific help over the last few years!

Hi Nikki - I am in Vancouver too - what type of alopecia do you have? I would love to chat more with you - I feel so isolated here in Vancouver - I only know one other person here personally with alopecia.

Hello. My name is Nikki. I am from the Vancouver area. I just joined AW today. This is an amazing site. I have been battling and now have alopecia for 25 years. I am married and have two kids. I started wearing a wig 18 years ago. It was hard but the right wig made all the difference to my confidence - thank goodness. I look forward to chatting with you all. Such a great support for us Canadians. I will let some of my other friends know about this site. That's it for now!!

Jennifer and Healther - the best place that I have found is a place called Mohair Salon in Gastown. Yanni is fabulous - she will take really good care of you and she styles the wigs/pieces herself - wish I had found her years ago!

For anyone looking to style a wig I also have a great gal who did mine named Beverly. She is in the Yaletown area and works from home or in a salon (can't remember the name). She does all of the drag queens wigs so is experienced in cutting and styling wigs. I can dig her details up if anyone is intereste.

Thanks Heather & Azadeh - I'll check both places out.

Jennifer, I know there is a salon in City Square (http://www.mycitysquare.com/)
on 5th floor that sales and cuts very natural wigs.
once I've been there for my son.

Jennifer, I'm from Vancouver too, and I bought my first wig from a place in North Van behind the Michaels near Park and Tilford.. I'm not sure if that says anything for you haha.. But to be honest I haven't really found a great wig place in Vancouver, and I've been getting mine from this amazing company in the States that was actually started by a woman with Alopecia called Amy's Presence.

I have a wig that needs to be cut & styled here in Vancouver - does anyone know of a good place. I've bought wigs at Eva's but never had one styled there...

Hello everyone. I wanted to let anyone who lives in the Toronto, ON area that there are two support groups being run back to back this Saturday April 10th and the following Saturday April 17th.
There will be four groups running at the same time in the same location. (adults with alopecia, children with alopecia 7-12, parents of children with alopecia, and teenagers)
It's being held at North York Civic Centre 10:30am - Noon.
Please contact canaaf@gmail.com if you have any other questions/concerns.
These support groups are being run under CANAAF which is the newly created canadian foundation for those affected by alopecia
