Thanks for the information Ladies....I am still trying to use my own natural hair to cover spots at this point, however, I know the day is coming quickly. I guess I am just having a hard time moving to the next step. I thought if I purchased a wig I would be more comfortable when the time came.
Thanks for the info for Vancouver Jennifer...I may have to take you up on that offer :)
I will also check out the site you recomended Sabina.

Ive ruined a couple of cheap ones trying to cut them myself, takes a certain knack to get it right for sure. There is a place here in Winnipeg that is supposed to be fantastic, as the owner herself has alopecia. That is my next place to try. I had one ruined in the salon as well. Wig was 450.00, then 75.00 to alter it and can never wear it unless I have a hat on.

I got one short layered one two years ago that I loved! Unfortunately its worn out now and I just use it for when Im horseback riding when its chilly out or other at home outside stuff when people are around.

I just bought a new one this winter that was very nice but when I got home and put it on I noticed stickyups all over. I went back to the salon where I bought it and they told me to use hairspray to glue them down LOL nice!! Needless to say I will not be going back there again!! Shame to because it is a very cute wig! That one was almost 400.00. I think Ill just keep on with my cheapies!

I have yet to buy a human hair wig, but have been looking at them alot lately! Raquel Welch has one that I like, Hot Sauce or something like that. I may buy that one then take it in to Gisselles and get it styled shorter. Wont be til fall now tho, its too hot to wear wigs in the summer.

I have only talked to one person who has tried a vacuum wig and she didnt like it.

Hi Pam,

I did have the Salon in Toronto where I bought it thin it out and they ruined it....$2500 down the drain in minutes.... I so don't look good in long hair or bobs. I like short layered hair. Most human hair wigs only seems to look ok in bobs and long hair. I don't think I have ever seen a short hair human hair wig that isn't in a bob style which is yuck on me. And unfortuanately most short synthetic wigs look soooooo fake.
I ended up going to Paula Young online and taking a chance and ordering the wig snap for $60 and I ended up liking that one...... Still not the same as the short hair I used to have.

I have had several synthetic wigs too being cut to a different style....So very tired of ordering wigs and then ruining them when they are cut....

Hi Jade

Thats why I started ordering the cheap wigs on ebay. If they dont suit me Im only out 20/30 dollars. The one that is too much hair you can take into a salon and have them thin it for you (I had to do that with one of mine) and you can have them restyle the others that you dont like on you. They can cut the synthetic ones to a different style. I have 3 expensive wigs that I rarely wear, I always end up with one of the cheapies on my head! I

Jade where do you buy your wigs in Ottawa? I have been to three places and hated all of them. I especially hated Miss Carolyn on Merviale road. That woman is an absolute uncaring cow. She is only in it for the money and you feel almost obligated to buy wigs. I ended up with two which I detest.

I pretty much order mine online and switch back and forth. I have a human hair wig I got in Toronto but hate it too. I never wore it. It is a bob haircut. I just don't like bob cuts on me. I find human hair wigs way too thick for my pin head.... I am trying to get up the guts to shave the head and go for a vacuum wig.....

Hi all, Ive had alopecia sence before I can remember and I have a great place in ottawa, ontario where I buy human hair wigs. Its really great. Once you where real hair you'll never go back to the synthetic ones. But Because of the cost :( I can only buy one a year, so recently I started buying them on ebay. And now I wear a new one every week! I definately suggest checking it out.
