Hi I am a mother of a 9 year old boy who lives in Edgewood New Mexico.Alopecica has been in our lives since October 9 2011.I am interested in starting a support group for the kids and parents in New Mexico to understand that any child can be affected by Alopecia and that they are not alone. My son is currently in 4th grade and has been wearing a hat to school (which the principal of the school gave use permission since we told him his condition) Personally I think I would of pulled him out if he could not wear a hat to school) anyway kids at school do notice him being different wearing a hat and always think the worst cancer for hair lost and I tell him to tell the kids it just hair loss I am not sick cancer is so much worst and I feel even more heartache for the kids with cancer and hair loss.Three week ago I had no idea about Alopecia, in other words it can effect any age or race or gender. Most parents, I am sure are not educated and talk to their kids about the condition,I bet the schools dont either which in turn effects my child because the kids at school just think he is sick. Which I am so greatful that he is not. If you are reading this and feel helpless and confused I also am that is why I am writing to find families in New Mexico facing this new challenege in our lives Alopecia I know I did not invite it but since it is here I need to be strong for my child. My email is NJBERN30@aol.com Please email me if you are interested right now I feel like the only parent in the state with a child with hair loss. Thanks remember acceptance is the key !!! :)
