Anyone else have high cholesterol? I don't eat any meat, have fish now and again, don't eat chocolate, don't like cream, no butter either. Eat a little cheese and 6 tsp of plain yoghurt daily. Drink a couple of wines a week. Only eat egg whites. No bread. Go to the gym 4 times a week. Come on!!! I still have a cholesteral of 5.8!!! Not fair when my husband eats only meat, no vegetables whatsoever [yes you read that right] loves cream, butter, biscuits, eats at least one chocolate bar each day and still has a perfect cholesterol. Life just doesn't seem fair :(

Hi Pat, as my doctor would say, you picked the wrong parents. They are realizing now that genes play a very important part in our lives. I have the same problem as you, although I do eat meat, but stay away from dairy products. My husband is a dyed in the wool carnivore with wonderful cholesterol numbers. Go figure.
Dr said no need for pills just yet so we'll see. I think you're right...my mother also has high cholesteral and is now on pills for it yet she is anythng but a big eater whereas my father has always eaten everything is sight...particularly the fat [ugh] on meat..but his cholesterol is okay...although he's got diabetes now. For now I'm happy to try to control it with diet. I did at one time, a few years ago, get it down to 4.8 on a really strict diet and intensive cardio programme called Body for Life, but I can't do cardio now with my PMR so that's out of the question. Anyway, I'll see what I can tweak in my diet and if it improves any.
Genetics my dear!
Yeh, what a bummer!!!

Pat my doctor tried me on Krill Oil and Cinnamon supplments to try to lower my triglycerides after diet alone did not work - well they did not work either. Since this has a long history in my family along with heart attacks at an early age I am now on Tricore. I will know in 3 months if it is helping. My good C is good and my bad C is fine - for me it is just the trigs. Genetics are a bitch.

Pat,

I just came across this post, and thought I'd share...

Someone from another alopecia website posted that she started taking "Vytorin" for her high cholesterol, and her hair has since started to grow back. She lost her hair in 2/10 and had little success with treatments to grow it back. According to her posts, she has been taking this drug since early March and has small white hair growing back. It might be worth asking about if it turns out you need to start medication for your cholesterol.

Thanks Kathryn next time I get a blood test I'll ask the dr about it.
