My Son's AU started about Two year ago, (at the age of 7) he was completely Hairless with in Two months and now  He started getting  thick patches on the back of his head a month ago... and now he has a slight fuz developing on top of his head.... still no body hair or eyelashes.... it almost looks like it is growing back in the same way it fell out

I am just very confused and concerned. We were told that it was very unlikely he would have any hair again

Has anyone ever had this happen??   I would love to hear any similar stories

Hi, I have an 18yr old daughter who at 15 developed AU. She has always had some hair of sort, it falls out, and grows back.In different stages...like you said, growing back in as it fell out. It has been over a year now, and it has hardly fallen out...she only has one patch, it is getting quite long, her eye brows have come back in for the first time in 3yrs, not sure about her eye lashes.  I was told there is about 2 or 5% of Alopecians who get hair growth, but as for how long it stays before falling out again, is anyone's guess. It is very unpredictable. I also find it is very wearing on the emotional side...but that is us, may not be like that for everyone. The fuzz is new hair growth, as my daughter is dark hair and complexion, her fuzz was blond...which is quite ok, as it darkened up back to her natural colour as it grew out. It is easy to say, but it does make a difference just trying to go with the flow. Not get upset when hair falls out...or hair grows in. She wears a hat 24/7 so when it has been growing in all stages and looking funny, the hat hides all that. Hope this is of some help. :)

My daughters hair started growing back in the fall and around Christmas she had a nice pixie hair do.   Right after Christmas it started falling out again and she is down to nothing.  It was hard because she was so happy with the little hair she had but we are adjusting :)  Good luck with your hair growth!

My son lost his hair when he was one and it was gone for over a year until we were told by dermatologist to put a topical steroid on it a few times a week. Most of it grew back except for a very small patch or 2 we could hide. Then he got more patches and we used another steroid for those. It was just a liquid we put on his head. All of the hair came back this time. He kept his hair for several months. Now it is gone again. We are back to putting topical steroids on his head. Hoping it will grow back again.
