Since I was 19 (over 35 years), my passion has been International and Balkan folk music and dancing. I teach a weekly folk dance class, and I play several kinds of drums in two San Diego-area bands. The dances are very energetic, and I teach the class bald - too hot for even a scarf. My class very quickly got used to the new me when I lost my hair last January - besides, they're watching my feet, not my head!

The music is fascinating, with interesting rhythms and harmonies. The bands are called "Eastern Exposure" and "Dromia". We play traditional dance music from Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Turkey, Armenia and some other countries, as well as Rom (Gypsy) tunes.

For anyone in the Los Angeles area, I'm going to be performing in Santa Monica on Friday, Dec. 12 with my band, Dromia, and with a guest clarinet player from Chicago. Let me know if you'd like details.

Hi everyone,

I posted seven videos on YouTube of me performing with one of the bands I'm in. Here's the link to one of them, and the others will all come up under "more videos from Drmrfordancing":

You can also search for "Dromia Stoynoff" and they all come up.

The music we're playing is from Greece, Turkey, Armenia and Albania.

I'm playing at a big Greek festival in San Diego on June 13.
Hi everyone,

I just posted some photos from a performance on August 8, drumming with some visiting Bulgarian musicians: http://www.alopeciaworld.net/photo/albums/bald-lady-drumming

If anyone in the LA area is interested, I'm going to be appearing with "Dromia" in Santa Monica on Sept. 12, 2009, and with "Eastern Exposure" on October 10. Let me know if you want details. I've worn a scarf when performing in LA previously, but now that I've begun to perform bald, I may debut my head in LA! It would be great to have other Alopecians there!
