I'm Brooke, 17 years young. At one point in my life I would have told you that Alopecia was a horrific thing and it was the most terrible thing to ever happen me, but the older I've gotten I've realized that without having this, I'd only be half the person I am right this second. I've got an amazing boyfriend that loves me accepts every part of me, and makes me happier than I ever thought I could be. I've as well got three really wonderful & really cute little brothers, who truly bring the sun up for me. I have been very unfortunate in meeting another person who has Alopecia the way I do, I'd love to make friends(as well as keep friends) who have it as well. I'm in school for Psychology & I would love to start some form of therapy for kids & teens with Alopecia, it's not as known about as it should be. Other than that, I'm just another teenage girl. I'm from North Carolina & I can't wait to get this college/career show on the road and eventually get my own place. I'm into piercings and tattoos, though I don't have any tattoos yet I'm definitely planning to get one when I'm legal. I've got my nose & snakebites done & I'm always wanting more. I can be a really good listener, and I love meeting new people...so, let's be friends (:
Hi Brooke, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us.
Hi Brooke, the colors that you used are really awesome on your page, I never would have thought of the combination. I have to tell you, I have a hard time looking at the picture of the girl getting her tongue pierced though! LOL! I am good. I have had alopecia for 17 years, every once in a while it grows back and then falls out again, so now I just keep it cropped/shaved short. I guess it is my little defense mechanism... don't grow it,don't have to worry about it falling out. How are you?
Brooke, that was the whole reason behind the site. When we are struggling, waiting for a yearly conference or the next support group meeting in 2 months... won't cut it. This way it is instant, you can talk to either people your own age, or someone in a similar situation as you. We all give input and then we take or alter the option that is acceptable or liveable for us. The information that I have seen on this site is amazing. People are finding tips and products and sharing them with each other, stuff that they would never have know about. I also seen people make arrangements to meet. I think it is awesome. Are you going to the conference in Kentucky?
You can see a couple of photo on page, most of from the conference. Basically you spend a weekend in the majority, totally surrounded with 750-100 people with alopecia. You talk , you cry, you laugh, you dance your butt off, there are support sessions, makeup demonstration, wig vendors. I did a lot of my "firsts" at the conference. The first time I went out with a hat on, then without a wig, then the whole weekend without a wig, and then left the wig at home... You can also go to the NAAF website for more information on the sessions. I have been to 17 and have yet to miss one and would feel really strange if ever I had to. A couple of people here are going, you can rsvp under the events so that we know who all is going and try to all get together while we are there. You should consider it, you won't regret it.
Either bring a friend with you, or make some here before you go and make arrangements to meet up with them... and if you do go... BE SURE TO FIND ME AND SAY hi! :)
Hi Brooke! I've been AU for what seems like ever and can completely identify with the way you've felt! Hang in there girl, there are brighter days ahead!!! Keep smiling that beautiful smile :-D
