About Me:
I am a 33 year old attorney in Houston, Texas. I lost all of the hair on my head between December 2006 and February 2007. After a few months, I continued to lose all of my body hair, including my eyebrows, eyelashes etc. But over the course of the past year, I have learned so much about myself--namely, that who I am is not based on my hair or lack thereof--and about my friends and family.
Are you age 18 or older?

    Hi Maidie,

I've got a friend in Houston i visited a couple years ago during the summer. I remember it being hot and humid and having a BHD (Bad Hair Day) Of course I had hair then. Glad you are doing well

What you said is beautiful...and a totally empowering revelation...and truly something so much more acute for women and the overlay of cultural 'norms' (e.g., prejudice and ignorance) ~
  • Kristen

Hi Maidie - I love your revelation. I totally agree. I've had a long time to process my hair loss and have come to similar conclusions. :-) I live in Austin and have started a group for Texans. Check out the group page to join. I'd love to get to know you better. Cheers!

    Hi there Maidie,
This is wild! I too live in Houston and lost all my hair on my head between December 2006 and Feb. 2007. After a few months, I also continued to lose all of my body hair, including my eyebrows, eyelashes etc. Do you wear wigs? I do sometimes, but I really would just love for my own hair to come back. Write me sometime. I would love to chat. Take Care,
    Jenn

    Hi Maidie,
I also have AU, with no eyelashes, eyebrows, head or body hair. I've had it for 30 years. How are you? Sounds as if you have a great attitude!

Yes, I have been married since 2001. I lost all my hair after I had our son almost 2 years ago. I get my wigs online and also at Andre's wigs. Do you know where that is? It is over near West U. The people there are really nice and helpful. So have you met anyone else in Houston that has AA/AU?
  • Sarah S

Hi Maidie. My name is Sarah and I came across your profile and noticed your were from Houston. I just moved to Houston in February. I also have AU (started losing my hair in December of 2006 and became AU in January of 2008). It is great to find a site like this and get in contact with other people in the same situation! It was great to see in your profile that you have been able to learn so much about yourself while dealing with AU. I am starting to go through the acceptance part of this struggle and it is nice to see that it can happen. Do you have any suggestions on where to purchase wigs in Houston?
  • Sarah S

Thanks for all the info Maidie! I appreciate it. All my hair just feel out in January and I have bought one wig since then. I like it, but sometime I worry it is going to fall off and I think I want to go ahead an get another one. I used to be active but since my au I have found myself not wanting to do anything active for fear that my wig or cap I am wearing might fall off. I will have to check out the place in Houston where you got your wig.
I have lost all my eyebrows and eyelashes. Have you done the permanent make up and if so, would you recommend it? Thanks again for the information. Your positive outlook has given me hope for my future and for finding acceptance with my au.
  • Sarah S

Hi Maidie, thanks for the information on the permanent makeup. I really considering going ahead and doing it. I have read Bald as a Bean and I loved it. Reading the book gave me the courage to join this site and start talking to people that are dealing/accepting au. I love to read and plan on reading the other books you suggested. Thanks again for ALL the information you have giving me!

    Hi Maidie,

I live in Houston as well and I would like to at some point meet other people in our area who have Alopecia. I have recently been diagnosed with the condition. It has been six months now. It started with just the hair on top of my head and within the last two months spread to my eyelashes and eyebrows.
