Profile Information:

Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
I have had alopecia universalis since I was 7 yrs old. After 35 yrs, I finally accepted my beautiful head, put a gorgeous tattoo in the back, and let go my wig. Then I met the most special man, and we were married. Unlike all those around me, his support was in his actions, to shave his head, so we both have a beautiful head. Some days I still feel insecure, but he quickly reassures.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia universalis
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes

Hi Willow. I'm glad you decided to make your own page. :) Welcome. Thanks for commenting on my blog. With everyone's wonderful advice, I'm still not really sure how I'm feeling about the injections. I'm hoping the doctor will help with his words, too. The thing is that I really truly would rather lose it all then go through years of dealing with these patches. It's so frustrating! Who knows, though, maybe it will all grow back! We will just have to see I guess.

    Hugs,
    Mandy

Also, would you be willing to post a pic of your tattoo on your head? I think that's so cool. If I lose my hair, I'm definitely going to tattoo my head.
  • willow

yes, mandy i will add a pic of my tat, as you know, i'm having a hard time with this site, and i must say, the hardest part of alopecia is acceptance, and it appears your quite strong there, when i lost my hair, i was alone, no one know why, and i that did most of the damage to my self

If you tat your head, be very sure of the art you want, cause unlike other tats, its more noticeable, firstly being your head, and second cause your a woman. There are two kinds of ink, one for face, without copper I believe, and regular. I was told that I shouldn't have used the regular one, but, honestly haven't had any trouble with it. Choose your artist well, and if you find the steroid needles are painful, the tat is much much more. You can also get your brows, and eyeliner tatted. For me, it didn't take so well, and I used the special ink for faces. The liner is excruciating pain, I had to get it done 3 times, and it didn't stay, I'd have to get it done again, and find its not worth it.

Thank you for your kind words Willow! I love how you pulled off the beautiful bride - you look amazing! If I ever get married I'm coming to you for tips ok!

Hi Willow, thanks for the add. It was 2 years ago that I decided to let go of the wig (at least for a while) and just wear scarves. That was a huge adjustment in itself. Maybe one day I'll have the confidence to go completely bare, because yes, it's a sweet feeling! (I also thought about getting a tattoo, but the pain I think would be pretty intense).

I stopped visiting doctors about 10 years ago, but it never hurts to have the name of a good dermatologist -- especially one as supportive as the one you know. So yeah, it would be great if you gave me his/her name. Take care.

Thanks! I really hope to meet some wonderful people in Louisville. Thanks again for your nice reply.

People fear things they don't understand and Alopecia is something of a mystery. Although it doesn't have to be...You've come a long ways. Thanks for the dermatologist reference by the way. Keep in touch!

Thanks for the advice i have been told i can get it done through the hospital but had decided not to because i don't always draw them on, i am thinking about getting the temporary ones that last a few days for special occasions.

There is special ink for faces, its a non copper ink, don't mix this up with Henna, which is vegetable based, but not permanent. You would want an aestheticism , they are the makeup pro's, and best to advise of color, and style of brow. Ask for references, 500 bucks for brows, if they are good, they will have no problem showing you their work. Being at the beauty parlor, over the tattoo parlor, gives an ambiance, making you feel that much more beautiful, which I think many of us lack. Having alopecia since I was a child, a beauty parlor isn't something I visited, so for me, when I got my brow tat's it was very special, and the aestheticism, made me feel special and beautiful. She should draw them in, so you can see how they would look. Make sure she will repeat her work if they don't quite take. Mine gave me 1 yr, she would repeat her work until I was absolutely satisfied.

    Hi Willow,
Thank you for the lovely comment on my page. I also love your tattoo!!! Beautiful!!! Everyone asks if it hurt, and my answer is...."not as much as being a woman and losing my hair did!!!" And, I absolutely meant it! I love my tattoos (22 total) and I'm sure you can understand what I mean when I say that getting my head tattooed was therapy for me! It made me smile and I'm so happy for you when I read your "About Me" section. I am very lucky to have a husband who is just like yours. I didn't meet him until after I lost all my hair. I was still very insecure about my bald head until he made me feel beautiful and confident about it. We have been together for 5 years and he still makes me feel beautiful every day even when I'm not having such a "good hair" day!!! My daughter Kristin who was in a bad car accident, is home now and recouping more every day. She is still in some pain with the broken collarbone but gets around much better now. Thank you for asking about her. I am so glad you wrote and I hope we can become good friends.
    Love and Hugs,

    Hello my friend,
Just checking in. Hope you are doing well and are enjoying the weather. As far as your family is concerned, it's their loss!!!! My family was pretty weirded out when I ditched the wig for tattoos, but then they just knew that it is what "I" needed to do for "ME" and I really didn't need their permission to do so. They all came around eventually and actually think I'm pretty "cool" My husband and children are really the only ones that I actually cared about their opinion, and they were very supportive through everything!!! I hope that your family comes around too, but if not, you have your family here!!!! Hey, did I tell you that I just won a tattoo contest??? I got a $500 gift certificate for a tattoo!!! WooHooo!!! Now I just have to decide what I want next. I really need to find something special and not something random. Every tattoo (other than the flowers used to fill in) has a meaning to me. This one will too. Any suggestions?? LOL
    Love and Hugs,
    Dotty

    Hello my friend,
Big hugs to you. Nice to hear from you. I know what you mean about the summertime. I didn't have a minute to myself. Thinking of you often though.
