Hi, I read your page again, it is great. I hope you have a good day today!
  • Nicole

Thank you for the compliment!! I love the brows....I hope yours don't fall out but if they do and you want a recommendation on where to go I would highly suggest Jeffery Segal...he did an great job and was so nice! If you ever have any questions let me know!!
    Have a great day! : )
  • Nicole

I LOVE what you wrote about hair being an old friend...it gave me goose bumps!! :) So true! Thanks for sharing!
  • Roger

    Hi.

It will be my first time in the US =)
  • Amanda

Hi Donna! You work with my stepmom DeAnna right? Hope you like the site!
  • Cheryl, Co-founder

    You're so cute!
  • Amanda

Thanks for the compliment, that's sweet. I broke my internet card or I would've thanked you sooner :) I really enjoy reading your page.

I'd gone to the lancome make up counter at macy's and the gal thought it would be fun to draw them in for me. She was really nice. I had to take a pic to commemorate the moment. I've never had them. I had steroid injections a few months ago in them and they grew but they are now falling out again. I figure it wasn't meant to be. I've also never had body hair which I've never missed. It's actually ironic to me that people now pay money for electrolysis to have baby smooth skin like mine. The only hair I really care about is the hair on my head. I don't know what I would do if I lost it all. I truly admire you.

Hi Donna, thanks for adding me as a friend! I love the paragraph you have at the top of the page about your hair being an old friend. It sure was! People - who don't understand - say, it's only hair. But it's not - each time it said good bye, I felt like I was losing an arm! But like it says, we do go on and really at this point, it's hard for me to believe I ever had hair. Fortunately I have all those times as a teenager that I remember screaming and crying and banging my brush on the bathroom countertop because my (real) hair wouldn't do what I wanted!! ( I really did that, how silly). Delete Comment

Hi Donna, how have you been? Hopefully you've been out enjoying the nice weather!
  • Cheryl, Co-founder

I don't know if I told you this before or not... but that hair color is so amazing on you!
  • Cheryl, Co-founder

Plus I think it is a bonding moment between a couple. I guess because we are so vulnerable. I know what you mean about the velcro... Sometimes I swear it is a good thing that I don't grow a lot of hair. Because where I do grow... it grows fast! Like my underarms! argh! LOL!
  • Mandy

Donna I love what you wrote on your profile. Yes, I'm definitely getting used to the idea to accept whatever happens. Actually I'm kind of just anxiously praying for it all to fall out at this point. I'd rather be totally bald then dealing with these patches. Pray for me! Yes that's my dog...she's a Doberman and the love of my life. :) I see you like animals, too. The tattoo is real. Looks kinda not real in the picture cuz I had just gotten it done and it sorta swollen and covered in ointment. It's a symbol from a video game that basically is a symbol of courage. Anyways, so nice to meet you and keep in touch, ok?

Donna, that is something to think about. Thanks, Cheryl

    Hi Donna,
Wonderful! I'm excited to find out how you like it!

    Donna,

I am so glad to see that you are becoming more comfortable with yourself!!! One thing I used to do when I wore wigs was to find one color, stick with it, and then find all kinds of different styles -- long, short, curly, straight, whatever tickles your fancy! I have noticed that because wearing wigs and weaves and hairpieces is becoming the norm, what we would normally consider drastic really isn't anymore. What do you think?
  • Cheryl, Co-founder

Hi Donna, I wanted to tell you that I really enjoy reading your blogs and insight. You have the ability to really be honest and to express it. A quality that does not always come naturally to me and I admire it in you. Looking forward to learning more from you. Take care. Cheryl.

Are you going to the conference this year?
  • LeslieAnn Butler

    Hi Donna,
You're an inspiration -- and I'm sure you are helping a lot of people.

    Hey Donna!!!

Believe it or not, the Black hair salons and Korean beauty supply stores (and wigmakers) are probably your best option for finding petite wigs. Most major brand wigs (i.e. Raquel Welch, Tony of Beverly, Rene of Paris, European Naturals, etc.) have petite wig sizes for petite heads. Going to a Black or Korean hair supply store or salon and you can learn to do quick weaves, which don't really require you having hair to do, and it gives you even more flexibility for trying out new styles!!!

Yes, the pictures are new -- they're for Julia's book project. Glad you like them!!!

Hi, Donna. I'm glad you're enjoying my classic love songs playlist. Let me know which song you like the most. Wishing you a magnificent Monday and wonderful week! rj ;-)
  • Billie

Just wanted to drop by and say Hello. Sorry to hear of your buddy passing. Animals play so many roles in our lives & we certainly miss them when they are gone.
I love the "do" you have now too. It is very becoming. I was looking thru your photos- you and your hubby make the cutest couple! It is wonderful when you are married to your best friend. Mine cut the remainder of my hair too. Talk about unfemininity/ unsexy feeling!!!! Talk about one who plays it safe - I too have stayed close to my own hair as it used to be.
Maybe one day I will venture into the wild and wicked styles they have out.... But not now...
    Nice to meet you!
  • Cheryl, Co-founder

    Hi Donna,

I guess the conference is a lot like this site. I find that with Alopecia visual is so important and to see others living their lives fully, getting married, having kids, careers, gives us the extra push to get out there and live. Seeing women and men that I thought were beautiful with wigs, with hats and scarfs or bare ... helped me see that hair is not a prerequisite for beauty or better yet, worth. Plus you can go into a support group that is more specific to your needs. IE: Single, married couples, parents of kids with alopecia... A lot of the photo's on my page are from the conference.
  • Dotty

    Hi Donna,
The smiley face on my head is the logo for the MSN group called Alopecia Areata Support Community in which I am a member of. You are welcome to join. One can never get enough support. I actually started a trend when I got this tattoo. The other manager has it tattooed on her upper back and another member on her wrist!!! It's adorable isn't it? Thank you for the comment.
    Love and Hugs,
    Dotty

    Hi Donna,

There are support groups, an exhibitor section, meet and greets, and a dance that is like no other! Here is the conference brochure that you can look at for this year.
  • Katey

    Hi Donna...
Yeah, I do have a full wig on in my photos. Have a nice day!! :)
  • Billie

    Hi Donna,
Hope this finds you doing well today. I am on a mission for a new"do". While I love the headbanded hair( it is sewn right to the actual band) I am ready for a change. I am thinking of going with a layered style and a bit lighter.
My normal hair used to be light brown (now not only spotty but gray and white) and with the wigs I have stayed a shade darker ( med brown). I like them but am just ready for a change.
I am looking on a website I have ordered from before
called beautytrends.com. They are very reasonable, even if they are synthetic. Now I just have to make up my mind... LOL-
Have a good rest of the week. TTYL.

    Hi Donna,
    How are you today?
I am wondering how you liked my book -- what do you think? Did you get any good stuff out of it?
    Can't wait to find out!
    Hugs, LeslieAnn
  • LeslieAnn Butler

Girlfriend, I'm so glad you and your mom like it!
    Big hug!
  • Linda

Hi Donna, about the little diddy on my page, I love it too, I have to remind myself some days that it's all about attitude. For the most part, I'm good, but sometimes, I'll get a comment that unnerves me and I have to breathe in, release and stroll away in confidence.
  • Amanda

Hey Donna- Yeah when I joined this site, one of the gals-Julia- was asking for people to volunteer their stories for her book so I said I would. I thought it would be nice to share. I hope it helps someone going through their alopecia. You know I was looking in the mirror the other day and I think I see an eyelash growing back. I am hoping there are more to follow!! How is your summer going? Mine has been pretty busy- observing at the Lewiston Vet Clinic, work, taking online animal nutrition class, and gardening. It's kind of late in the summer but I've finally got some tomatoes growing! have a good week:)
  • Cherylnz

    Hi Donna
Just read your blog on wig stores.
Just thought I would say hi and your photos are lovely. You are beautiful and your wigs look gorgeous, lovely style and color
Its great when we find helpful people and wigs that work for us.
  • Amanda

Hey Donna, How are things? Hope you are having a Happy Holidays!

  • Dawn

By the way, your hair looks great! I love the style and color.
You don't mind me asking, how is your's bonded? The fit looks very natural.
  • Theresa

    Hi Donna~
You are amazing. I stumbled accross your page by accident looking for human hair wigs, you inspired me.....I have lived with alopecia my entire life, and have had a wonderful life never letting alopecia stop me from doing anything. You are a beautiful girl, and have enjoyed reading your page!!! Very inspirational!
  • JeffreySF

    Hi Donna,

I love to have fun. All is good in SF except it is supposed to be raining for the next 10 days. How are you doing in Idaho? Are you planning on attending the NAAF Conf this year?

    Happy Valentines Day.

    Jeff
  • Amanda

Hi Donna- Its nice to hear from you. Coffee would definitely be great, it would be nice to finally meet:) Skiing was fun, I hadn't been skiing in McCall in forever and couldn't believe how much it'd expanded. I'm heading to Portland this weekend to see a friend and I think while I'm there I'm going to check out a wig shop. Wish me luck!
  • Amanda

Thanks for the great suggestions Donna! I've also got my friend going with me so I have someone else's opinion other than the staff.
  • Amanda

I did find one. It's a lace wig- real hair. It's more of a strawberry blond but thats okay. I'll try to get some pictures up soon:) It feels so weird though. My hair is naturally fine and thin so this makes me feel like my head is huge. It will be interesting as time goes on and having to care for it. My little dog actually kind of growled at it when I took it off for the night; pretty funny haha. The woman that ran her place was amazing- she was so sweet and really wanted to find the best one for me.
  • Tony

    Hi Donna,

No, fortunately both my girls have long, thick hair. My Dad had alopecia so I was, and am, concerned that they will someday inherit the disease. Fingers crossed that they will take after their Mother in that regard.

    Tony
  • Amanda

yes I am wearing it out. I feel way more comfortable wearing it around strangers than people I know and work with. It just seems like a big difference when really people only notice my hair is a few shades different and a bit longer.
  • Amanda

I posted a picture! Don't mind the dog toys in the background. No shaving- I still have hair it's just thin. I think i'd have a really ugly bald head anyway....
  • Amanda

thanks. I totally know what you mean about people looking at you only to realize they like the cut and/or color:) It hasn't been too bad at all- a little itchy but I hope it goes away soon:)
  • Amanda

So the real hair wig isn't too bad so far. Just brush it before you put it on plus you can curl, flat iron it like you would your own. I'm pretty happy with it so far. Tonite is first washing but I don't think once a month will be any different than washing the dogs once a month... bad analogy? Maybe but it's the best reference I could think of:)
  • Amanda

Want to get coffee on Saturday? I'll try calling you in the next couple days if I don't hear from you.
  • Cindy

Hi Donna, just wanted to drop in and say Hi and see how you are doing these days...Sam is doing great and her hair growing on her scalp only, but still has bald areas to fill in...Cindy
  • Amanda

Not a problem. How did your Big Climb go?
