I am a working mother of 2, Hailey 8yrs and Marisa 11. Hailey has Alopecia Areata/Totalis since age 6. She is completely accepting of her condition and proud to be bald. She is actually quite funny about it, and can even poke fun at herself. (she recently asked me to buy her some shampoo while I was distracted at the store, when I looked at her, she just grinned!) She is trully an inspiration in self awareness.
Hi Lisa!!! Thanks for looking me up and welcome!. I actually tried to call you this week to see if you wanted directions to the meeting ,etc and the number I had in my phone was not a business and I said wrong number. We are going to plan a family day at a park in Attleboro in July. Please email me so I can add you to my contact list and if you register with CAP you will get the emails too. They are having a kids conference in Aug in PA (alopeicapalooza) that we will be attending as well. I would love for Samantha to meet another girl close to her age if you'd like to make plans to meet somewhere in the middle sometime..I look forward to meeting you soon and you will certainly meet alot of nice people here..Cindy
Welcome to alopecia world! Hailey is a beautiful girl and sounds very well adjusted!! I am sure you are a very proud mom. Humor makes just about every thing in life a little easier- guess it is true- laughter is the best medicine. :) I hope you find this site to be helpful, I know I have!
Hi Lisa,
nice to meet you too. Your daughter is beautiful. Yes, this condition is definitely harder on us, it's unbelievable how your outlook on life changes after an experience like this. I am impressed how well adjust Hailey is. My daughter is too small to realize what this is, and since she still has some strands of hair left, she thinks everything is normal (and doesn't let me shave it off). I see you are from MA, so are we, maybe one day we can all meet (I am trying to get to the meetings Cindy is arranging).
All the best.
Ala.
Hi Lisa,
It's great to meet another family from MA! Both your girls are beautiful! My daughter, Ella, will be 6 in July. She was diagnosed at 7 months old, so this is old hat for us. Ella is bald and that is that. We honestly don't know what she would look like with hair, so the "loss" really isn't missed. I definitely think we are lucky in that respect. It also makes it easier for us to be very accepting.
I see you've had contact with Cindy and I'd love to see you both at a meeting sometime. CAP is a great organization and we're looking forward to the alopeciapalooza in August in Philly. You should think about that one. I could email you the details if you'd like.
I look forward to meeting you and Hailey!

Hi Lisa,
How are you? Your girls are gorgeous!! My name is Dotty and I am from NH. I wanted to let you know that we are planning an "Alopecia beauty day" at a boutique in Chelmsford on June 7th as our first official awareness event for our newly incorporated non-profit Alopecia company. They are opening the boutique just for us and we can try on clothes, take lots of pics, and just have fun together. I got at least 40 dress up costumes for the kids. They will look so adorable. We are going to do a buffet brunch at the hotel nearby first and then go to the boutique. I hope you and your daughters can make it. I know it will be great!!! Please let me know so we can do a head count for the restaurant reservations.
Love and Hugs,
Dotty
