I lost all my hair just over a year ago ... just before my wedding day! i'm looking for advice on wigs, eyelashes and brows. I've never actually met anyone else who has alopecia. In the last half hour of poking around this website many of you have already inspired me with your confidence, which seems to be something i've lost. so thank you.
Hello and welcome, Lynda!
I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" You can find out more on my page -- and it's available on this site under "Bookshelf." Let me know if there's anything else I can do!

Hi Lynda, My name is Rachael and I live in Sydney Australia, I developes Alopecia 2 years ago and am about to get married in 8 weeks time. I have ordered a wig from Freedom wigs (they look fab & so real like). I really hope my wig gets here before I get married. Ive only known about this web site less than 24 hours and its open up a world full of sisters with the same condition as I have, I dont feel so alone now - Best Wishes Rachael
I have AA. I've had it for many years now. I used to get just one spot at a time but now I have multiple spots. They are kinda of all in different stages currently. Some looking great with lots of re-growth and some new ones just appearing. I get so frustrated with all the loss of control and helplessness of the condition!! I do know it could be worse- so I am grateful that I am still able to cover my spots with my hair. Let's hope that continues! :)
did you lose your hair quickly? or did you have spots that eventually progressed. It's tough no matter when you lose hair but I am sure right before your wedding made it harder! I hope it did not spoil or cause worries on your wedding day!!
do you see ever seen any signs of re-growth?
On a happier note- where did you go for a honey moon?
Hey like you I had my first spot at 19- right before my 20th b-day. I was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder at that time. So we thought it was related. And it seemed to be- b/c once I started taking meds for the thyroid problem the hair grew back. And I was lucky enough to have a 14 year remission. I remember blowing my hair dry in the mirror and the blinding white of my scalp caught my eye- that sucked!! It's baaaaacccckkk....
Ha ha- I agree vanity it a bitch! -
What do you do for your eyelashes and eyebrows? They tattoo's seem like a good option.
I've got something weird going on now - I'm finding very little spots- real small like the end of a pencil erasure - popping up like polka dots around my head. They are not really visible (yet) - and so far they are not getting bigger which is great! but it's a new pattern for me so I don't have a clue what will come of it. Just more to be anxious about- maybe it's time to start drinking more! ha ha.
Are you pretty open about having alopecia? talk freely with those around you?
You are so beautiful Lynda in your photos. This condition gives quite a shock. i'm a bit of an old timer. Ive had Ali-p since i was 17, over 23 years ago.
I have considered tattooing my brows but to be honest, been that long since i've say them, it might be strange to have them on my face again.
Its the lashes i miss the most.
Lots of great people about here with a wealth of experiences.Take care
Hey Lynda,
I saw your profile and could relate. I started losing my hair in december and have about 15% of my hair left. I am getting married August 22. After battling with the thought about not having hair on my wedding day, I finally have come to terms with it and luckily got a wig that i am comfortable with. I just want to tell you that you looked beautiful and give me hope that I will too look beautiful on my big day even if I am wearing a wig. Thanks Erin
you are so beautiful!! keep your chin up and your confidence high! I know it's hard and when an alopecia fit hits ya just remember that you are not alone. There is a very large group of us to lean on!
