Hi, I'm Lyndsey, I'm a 24 years old and origingally from the UK. I have recently graduated and am doing a postgraduate MA in International Relations and Diplomacy though distance learning, whilst I travel and teach English, with my husband. We currently live in Taiwan and I really like it here.
I've had alopecia areata since I was 15. In that time I've had 4 bouts of alopecia. I first lost my hair at 15 and was bullied pretty badly at school. My hair grew back almost straight away though. Next time I was 18 and at college where people were much more understanding. I had just got my first serious boyfriend too so I was worried about that but I am happy to say that we are still together to this day and my hair has never fazed him, and we have recently got married. This time my hair was gone for 2 years and I started experimenting with changing different wig styles loads and did a magazine article and part of a TV show to raise awareness. Approximately 2 years later my hair fell out again for 8 months and then, about a year later, here I am with bout number 4. My hair tends to fall out on the top or the crown where I can't hide it so I shave off what I have left as I have never lost everything on my head but I have had patches all over my body and don't currently have many eyebrow hairs or eyelashes but my eyebrows are semi-permanently tattooed.
I also have bi-polar which I find has a much more negative impact on my life than alopecia. It has been really hard to control and I've had 9 hospital admissions as well as having to take a 2 year gap from uni. I try not to let any medical condition rule my life however, and am proud of my achievements throughout my life. I am also lucky to have an amazing group of loved ones there for me.
My interests include politics (obviously due to my degree), reading, some gaming (such as pokemon, final fantasy and zelda), animals and languages.
Hey Lyndsey :)
wow, I'm an A level student too :) Although I want to study art :) Hope you feel at home here at AlopeciaWorld, honestly, it's a great community here! :)
Hi Darling, hope you're o.k. You should be very proud of yourself, at your tender age you were my inspiration to leave off the wig after 20+ years!! So a big THANKYOU to a VERY brave young lady who has exactly the right approach to alopecia. Sending love to your family, a great bunch of people who have obviously given you the correct approach to life without hair. X
