About Me:
I am a high school senior that has been dealing with alopecia ever since I entered middle school. Generally it hasn't kept me from doing what I wanted (played soccer with only a bandanna), but still I haven't been able to do EVERYTHING that I have wanted. It has led to some worrisome school days, but for the most part I accept it. I have only ever shown my head to good family friends and family, but hopefully one day I won't care so much. So far I have tried many different types of wigs, but I still haven't found one that I really like. Anyways, I really love animals, especially horses (they are the bomb) and I have been riding ever since I was six years old. Right now I have my horse (romeo), 3 dogs (nouveau, luke, finnegan), and 2 cats (captain vancouver, and miss canada 2007). I also really love soccer even though my mum has made me stop playing (too many injuries for her liking lol), and I practically devour books. Out of everything though, animals are the ones that give me the most peace and help me to feel my best, because besides my alopecia I also suffer from other autoimmune disorders.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia totalis
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

Yes, it's the wig she has on. We have colored it once and had them thin it out. In the photo it looks nice, but once we washed and styled it -it became unruly and difficult to manage.

Tattooed? I saw something about that the first night I got here and I must admit, I'm kind of interested. We'll have to talk about it, okay?

    Hi Dielle,

Thanks for all the advice about the wigs, it was very helpful. I think I would like to try a lace front wig from what you were saying. Are they more comfotable then a regular synthetic wig? I have one of those now and it is fine but it gets a little itchy and I don't think it would be very comfortable in the summer. Can you swim with a lace front wig on? Do you know what questions I should ask to make sure that the hair will stay nice looking after I wash it? I found a place in DC that come highly recomended and I will be there next month so I might try to get one then. Do you know how long they usually last if you wear them every day and about how much I should expect to pay? Thanks!

hi there - nice to meet you. Yes I have a freedom wig - in fact 2 now. They are fantastic i must say. I had synthetic lace ones before that, but they only lasted 8-12 months, and did fall off occassionally - i had a few embarrassing moments, once when i fell over and it came off, and the other in the wind. I love sports like you and can go skiing, running and all sports in my freedom wig. They are also not itchy at all. I get terrible excema and was worried that the vaccum would make my scalp itchy with a possible reaction. In fact that is why i never got one for so long, but i have had no reaction or itchyness at all. In fact i think that my scalp is actually better now than before. I used to find that the woven wig caps would stay damp if you perspired too much and then that would make my head itch. Anyway hope the info helps, drop me a line. Talk soon...Kath

good to hear from you - you may actually be surprised that the wigs are not as hot as you think. We have hot and humid summers here too, and although I cant be bothered sometimes, a lot of this summer I have worn my Freedom with no prob. the new one that I have has a newer breatherable silcone cap inside which is definately cooler. Hope it work for you too as I know what you mean about the explanation of what is alopecia. Good luck, Kath

Hey Dielle, I'm just stopping by to say hello and in doing so, got a change to look through your photos. Not knowing who's who, I'll just say that you're surrounded by warm, good looking people and that's always a good thing.

Anyway, I've decided to hang around, so don't be a stranger! Maintain
    and be well, peace.

Hi, Dielle. Surprised, right? LOL I'm just checking in on a few of my friends whom I haven't seen or heard from for a while and you happen to be one of them.

No big deal, just coming by to see that you're alright and feeling comfortable amongst us, from the look of your page I can tell you're doing well.

Okay, you're good and that was my main concern. If you ever need to talk, or have someone tell you a joke, don't be afraid to click my icon. I'll get back to you asap and well work through whatever's going on with you. Be kind to yourself, Clayton

    Hi Dielle

I identify with lots of what you have said - I am a big animal lover... and devourer of books! I have 3 dogs (1 is mine, 2 are my parents) and a cat, and I used to have a horse (before I got sick).

Hope you are enjoying college life.

I know what you mean, "idle hands" and all that, not to mention the issues of self-confidence, self-respect and the others "self" things inherent in how the way we look affects how we feel about ourselves. This condition is a monster for sure!

I lost my hair in '93 and STILL wake up some days thinking I have my hair, my beard, everything. Of course it's a very fleeting feeling (probably reminiscent of a dream I don't remember) but when it hits me that I'm bald, I get so depressed that it's scary.

I just fight through it as I'm sure you do. What would I give to have my old self back? Everything! I'd make a deal with the devil if I could, just to have to shave every other day again and go to the barber shop every other week!

Tomorrow (or the day after) things will be better and we'll be better able to deal with what we both seem to be feeling presently. Things DO get better, I know this for a fact. Hopefully, you can find solace in something I've said today.

    Stay strong, Dielle.

Hi dielle!! I really do like my follea wig. I see that you are in cumming. I grew up in Roswell and moved to Tucker a year ago with my husband. I actually purchesed my wig through a company in Alpharetta. What salon do you go to? I'm here if you have any questions! It is my first wig, it is pricey bit completely worth every penny!!! Let me know if I can be of assistance to you!!

Hi Dielle! Thanks for becoming my friend. You mentioned a cute winter had that you wear to the barn riding and can go under a helmet... do you have a link or picture? I AM still searching for the perfect solution :) Thanks! And I can totally relate to your love of animals. My saviours are dogs. I have only one right now (Storm), but I really miss my Maggie. I also have a Bengal cat named Mavrik who seems so much like a dog sometimes. They are the ones who love me unconditionally and really lift my spirits some days. My Mom and Dad have a quarter horse and a couple of ponies - I should really try to spend more time with them... (the horses)... :)
