Hi Karina, sorry it took a while for me to get back! yes i am without a wig. i did try a scarf for a while but i get intense hot flashes which make me strip modestly :) whenever they occur. i do have to get my pic taken at the DMV and im wondering if a wig is a good idea. I am worried about future employer discrimination regarding health insurance issues. at the same time i love my bald head.
Hi Karina. I saw your posts and thought I'd add my thoughts. I tried wearing wigs for about a year, and I just can't do it. I find them too hot. After several social events where I ended up taking off the wig and crying, I gave up. I now go everywhere bald. I know it's not for everyone, but it's working fine for me. Check out my photos and videos if you'd like.
Hi Karina. I do not tape my wig. I do wear a wig liner and I use a small piece of tape to keep the liner anchored. Wigs are not comfortable to me. I have finally found one that is very lightweight and short. It is the most comfortable one I have ever worn. I have been wearing this style about 6 months. I have it in two colors and human hair as well as synthetic. I like the synthetic much better. Good Luck!
Hi Thanks for the complimennt,as far as wigs i ONLY wear them on special occasions i am sooo comfortable in a hat or scarf. I wear long lace fronts and short wigs or quick weaves that i do myself.hope this helps . Have a GREAT DAY!!!
I am sorry to not have been on this site in so long...yes, to answer your question, I tell most everybody I wear a wig and have alopecia....I put an article in the newspaper too...i find it works best to be upfront with people, that's what works for me. God's love is so good...I trust in him with all of this, Jesus' life exchanged for mine gives me hope and peace. Have you asked him into your life for forgiveness of sins? He is too awesome for words. And knows our pain...
hi karina, for me its not comfortable to wear the wig, it never was. i only wear it to work which is about 9 hrs a day but i do go to the bathroom and take it off just to get a break sometimes. and when i leave to go home i take it off as soon as i get in the car. i do wear hats but its because it is getting cold and i wore some in the summer for the extreme heat.
Hi Karina,
It has taken sometime to get used to wigs, but I find them very comfortable ... maybe because they were a great solution for a life long problem that is why I love them so much. I even sometimes sleep in them.
Mostly all wigs would look a little "wiggy" but I find that lace front wigs are less so. I don't use tape or anything to secure them, I just tighten the side tapes a bit, but sometimes, when I know it's windy and I'll be doing activties or something, I use adhesive, tape is not as secure. But if you get adhesive be sure to order also solvent.
I buy synthetic wigs because I cannot afford to buy real hair, and if you buy a cheap wig with real hair, it's the worst type of hair, it gets tangled and is worn out very fast. A good synthetic wig would last almost a year.
Straight haired wigs are always easy to spot as wigs, so I always get curly or a slightly wavy ones.
I just got these two and they look very nice and natural: http://store.goldenmartbeautysupply.com/freqlafrwigl1.html http://store.goldenmartbeautysupply.com/jacofrlawiga5.html
I use the internationalwig.com and gmbshair.com because they are the only two sites that ship to Egypt, hairsisters.com and clairhair.com are very nice also.
At work one woman overheard a confidential conversation over the phone and she knew that I was wearing wigs, and she told everybody. If it wasn't for that indicent no one would suspect that I am wearing wigs, especially that I always stick to my original colour.
Anyway I have learnt long ago that it is nothing to be ashamed of, and whenever anyone asks me, I say yes I am wearing wigs because I lost my hair, it's something that God has given me to test me and I should be thankful that I lost only my hair, not an eye or a limb.
I hope this helped, and if you need anything else please tell me, also I can tell you which brand of wigs is nice and which is not, I've tried them all :)
Take care
Hi Karina - well thank you for the compliment - how long have you been dealing with the hair loss? what do you want to know about the wigs? take care - I have never been to Argentina - but I think it's a beautiful country from what I have seen!
What's a chat?
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, I was not always brave, but what I have suffered have made me strong, you're lucky you're not living in a third world country, people here are not broad minded and cruel when it comes to a woman without hair, I have never had a boyfriend when I was a teenager because no one would go out with the "bold" girl, I had so many women teasing me at work and flaunting their hair in front of me ... I've suffered a lot.
OK, let's talk wigs :)
I don't feel hot when I am wearing wig and Egypt in Summer time is very hot. But I always buy wigs that have ventelation in their caps, the sites I have posted earlier always features such wigs, even the lace front ones have this.
I wear a wig at work, lets say from 9 to 5 and another short one (which is lighter of course) at home. I mostly don't sleep in wigs, but I have tried it, it could be a little uncomfortable at first, but you can get used to it.
Brands depend on your budget ... I can't afford expensive wigs and I don't buy cheap wigs either, so I get something in between.
Mowtown Tress wigs look very lovely, also the hair line is very authentic, but the hair gets coarse very soon, actually I have asked why and they told me that this brand is geared towards African Americans and they make the hair closer to that texture.
Modu or it is sometimes called Anytime collection, the hair is good, and very soft, and they have very nice wigs, especially the LF Wig Dionne.
Janet Collection is a very nice collection too, but I only tried the LF Anna.
Freetress, I got Lisha and it is very good quality, but the hair line is not authentic, so I pulled a few hairs out of the front and cut them to make baby hair.
Don't buy regular wigs, they are always easy to spot, go for LF ... they are much easier to make natural, some of them even have a slight part which really helps with the authentic look, I will take a pic of such a part and the front of the LF wig and post it into my website for you to see.
Also when I buy a wig and try it for a few weeks, I usually buy another one like it as a backup, synthetic wigs lasts for 6 or 8 months and maybe a year depending on the wig and how you wear it, some wigs last with me for a year.
Hairsisters.com is good because you can see posts of how people like or disliked their wigs under each wig, sometimes nice women also post their pics, because of course a wig would look pretty on a model, but you always wanna know how it will look on a regular person. Also in youtube, sometimes I do a search with the name of the wig, and I find videos of women trying on the wig and commenting about it, it's nice and it helps a lot in your decision.
If you need any help whatsoever, if you need me to help while you're picking a wig, anything at all ... please just ask me.
I have hair, it is very thin in the front but still OK in the back, so I wear wigs, and I use hair pins to secure it from the back. Sometimes when the wig is really good fit, I don't even use pins at all. All wigs come with two bands on the sides that you can tighten or loosen as much as you want to.
With LF wigs, you can either use a thin layer of glue at the front of the wig for extra security or not if you think you are not going to do a lot of activities. Some glues are even water resistent, so you can wear the wig and go for a swim without worries :)
Hi Karina, I just posted some photos of how lace front wigs look like on me, I hope they help you, I got some very close snapshots, I did just for you to see if you think they would look good enough for you.
Hey hunny i work a 10 hour shift. im a dental hygienist. when i get home the wig is off my head...hehewhen it comes to working out i try to have one wig be the one i work out with. hope this helps...next month im ordering a lace front. excited!!
Hi Karina, yeah it looks very natural doesn't it, but it does not come that way straight from the factory, you have to play witth it a little.
Here in Egypt we don't have that kind of wigs either, that's why I order online through the net, it's easy and it's actually cheaper than buying wigs from Egypt and much better. You gotta try it sometimes, the wigs online are not really expensive and the shipping fees are reasonable.
And these wigs completely changed my life :)
I have used Jenny's Hair Sense wigs (online) and Forever Young - forever young sometimes has issues with quality, but they have nice styles - I wear them pretty much all the time, except when just hanging out at home or sleeping. They really don't last that long - maybe 4-5 weeks when you wear them all the time, but they are reasonably priced.
Well, I guess "normal" is subjective! It can get hot sometimes - I pretty much go about my business without worrying - but I have to say I have not dated since I've started wearing wigs, so I can't say how men react to that! If you wanted to spend a few hundred $ you could get a human hair lace front wig that you can keep on for days - I would if I could afford that - but also the benefit of synthetic is that it is always styled and I have kinda gotten used to not having to deal with styling my hair! plus, the possibilities are endless if you want to try different things - so I've tried to look at it positively, I have more hair options and spend less time on my hair! you can used clips or also double sided toupee tape if you want to make it more secure - but I have a mesh wig cap that I use that helps keep it in place, and it breathes better than the nylon type wig caps...what have you been doing up to this point?
A lot of wigs don't look natural if they have too much hair - if you go to Jenny's Hair Sense http://www.jennyshairsense.com/ - she will answer any questions about wigs - she has human and synthetic - I asked her to tell me the wigs that looked the most natural and sent her a pic - she is really really super nice and always sends discount codes. It's really easy to get depressed - I know - it just takes a little legwork to find what works for you - like I said, the less hair a wig has the more natural it looks - most ppl don't have poofy hair all over the place! Try diffeent styles to see what works for you - if you have a wig shop in your city, go there and try things on - look at it as an accessory - something fun to work with!
Sorry for the delay in replying - yes, I have been very open about my hair loss. I don't go telling everybody but if the opportunity arises or people asks I will just tell them as it is. Now I have lost all my hair again - my husband helped me tidy up by shaving rest of little hair I had. Now I am losing hair elsewhere too! My wig is good - it is human hair and last week I went to the hairdresser for first time which was nice. I wore bandanas all summer though - because i didn't have a wig. I think nowadays the wigs are very good.
If you can bear a wig in Summer and exercise
YES I CAN, BUT I DON'T WEAR VACCUM WIGS, I WEAR NORMAL ONES THAT USUALLY ARE LIGHT AND HAVE VENTELATION.
The hair can grow under a wig
YES, THE WIG I HAVE IS VERY LIGHT
...did everybody know about the wig
A WOMAN HEARD A PRIVATE CONVERSATION OVER THE PHONE AND SHE TOLD EVERYBODY, IF IT WASNOT FOR THAT NO ONE WOULD HAVE KNOWN. ANYWHERE I GO NO ONE NOTICES THAT I AM WEARING A WIG.
....can a regular wig be secure and comfortable
I USE PINS TO SECURE THEM ON THE BACK OF MY HEAD, AND AT THE FORHEAD, I HAVE RECEDING HAIRLINE SO I CAN EASILY USE WIG TAPE OR GLUE. BUT I DON'T USE GLUE UNLESS I AM DOING EXCERCISE, SWIMMING, NORMAL DAY I DON'T NEED GLUE AT ALL.
I don't want you to feel upset or different because of your hair, or that you have to hide it, be open about your hairloss, it's not a fault of yours and you are beautiful no matter what. Don't let people judge you and don't judge yourself.
I hope that your hair grows back again soon dear :)

Hi Karina,
I'm finally getting back to you about that comment you posted on my page. I am still getting used to this website and I've noticed a few times when I've logged in it has been having some issues.
Anyway, about my hair pieces. I chose to wear synthetic for several reasons. They are so much easier than human hair- no need to style or trim, they are less expensive, and frankly when you wear them right- more comfortable. My favorite brand is Rene of Paris. I usually get a new wig every 4 months or so, and I purchase them for about $150-$200 each. I rationalize it by thinking about how much I save on no more hair cuts, colorings, styling products, and razors for shaving my legs! Other people pay so much more (like in the thousands for their human hair wigs- personally I think they are crazy!)
I do have some tips about finding the right one for you.
My first tip is a big one..... Give up trying to find one that looks like your old real hair. I used to be blonde with straight shoulder length hair. I never found a wig that made me happy because I was constantly comparing it to what I 'used to be'. So go wild, change it up! I really love the auburns, reds, and brunettes now and think that they look the best. Also, to be quite honest.. the best looking wigs are short hair styles. The longer the style the more 'wiggish' it looks (not to mention HOTTER it is wear!) I would never buy one longer than shoulder length. Also, bangs are a must. So many people try to get away with having long non-existant bangs with a wig and let me tell you... that is a dead give-away! I find the shorter more textured styles can fool most people. I can't tell you how many women approach me and ask me how I get my hair to hold that much style? They want all the details on how I curl it or blow dry it and the products I use...(this lets me know how completely fooled they are). I hope this helps.
Also, for comfort sake... buy or make yourself a flesh toned knit cotton headband to wear underneath the wig. It will keep the edges from itching your head like crazy and make the wig much more tolerable to wear. I wear my all day- no problems.
ok, that is my knowledge on the subject in a nutshell. I hope this helps! Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
peace,
natalie
Hi!
I saw you read my blog :)
The hair on the picture isn't my wig, that still was my real hair, I haven't got a good picture of me with the wig yet. When I got one, I'll upload it. But it is comfy to wear, after a while I don't even notice it anymore!
Dai, coraggio! Vedrai che troverai la soluzione giusta! Un abbraccio.

Hi Karina, how are you? I do not have a wig right now. In my photos it is my real hair. All my real hair on my head is gone now, and I have ordered a Freedom wig, which I have heard is quite comfortable and the hair is just beautiful. I will surely be posting pictures when it finally arrives! They are very expensive, though, and you must be totally bald to wear them as they are vacuum pieces. Hope this helps! Have a beautiful day!
Hey Karina,
When I exercise and go to the beach I wear a synthetic wig since human hair wigs are spendy to have washed and styled. I get them at a discount online at www.wigsalon.com. The style I wear is "Brandi" by René of Paris; I cut mine about 2". It looks like that style might be good for you, too. To see it on me, look at the pix on my page of me with the little boy at the piano and outside with cupcakes.
No, I rarely wear my wigs. When I go out on the weekends to meet people I usually wear it just to avoid spending the night explaining about it. They aren't always the most comfortable thing to wear but once you are used to them you don't notice it anymore. To be honest, it's more of a hassle for me to deal with wearing the wig everyday, and I don't like spending time on it.
Hi Karina,
That is a wig in the picture and I do wear it to exercise, However, if it were not my job (and I was just working out as a member) I would probably wear a synthetic wig. Since my first wig is human hair and my new synthetic wig is a different shade and slightly different style I can't really change now. I was hoping to find one that looked really similar to my good wig since exercising in it will wear it down sooner.
Does that answer your question?
Yes, you need tape to attach the wig to your head. You can get wig tape online, too. I use just one piece of tape at the front, and that holds really well, but there is a band that allows you to attach tape all the way across the forehead. I wear my wigs all the time, except when I'm in bed and in the shower.
Hi Karina,
Yes, I do wear a wig. This one is human hair and is much easier to deal with than synthetic. It's not always comfortable, so I don't wear it at home. I'm also a bit hesitant to use tape because I'm not sure what chemicals are going to leech into my skin, so I just ensure it's tight enough (although that's not fool proof and it does sometimes slip off). In my opinion, getting a good quality wig is so much easier than managing a full head of hair. It requires way less time to look great, you don't have to wash it as much and you can get ready in just minutes. There are benefits to wearing them!
Hi Karina, No, i do not wear wig everyday, I usually wear silk scarfs, I have two wigs they are comfortables are human hair I just used them to change my look sometimes...I do not have any problem to show my alopecia, that hard time is gone.
hi karina! i do own a synthetic wig, but have been lucky this past year with re-growth. you say that your loss is stress related; what are some coping mechanisms you're using?
Of course you can live wearing a human hair wig all day long. :) I have to admit that the wig cap plays a large part in this...ask your wig retailer about ways to make it more comfortable.
Sure...some people know that I wear a wig, others don't. You don't have to tell people if you don't want to and in many cases it's irrelevant.
Some wigs are more comfortable than others, but with all of them, a wig cap underneath is essential. This will prevent the majority of the itching and slipping. While I have a human hair wig, I wear mainly my synthetics. They're easier to care for and I fool everyone into thinking it's real hair! As far as comfort - you have to find the right balance of snug but not too tight. Definitely cannot be too loose or it will slip around and you'll end up adjusting it all the time.
Three months ago, I never thought I would say I am used to wearing wigs, but I actually am almost there!
Good luck!
Hi Karina
im sorry you are sad!! i know the feeling. i have been wearing a human hair topper the last couple years but my hair is too thin now and i need to get a full wig. i have an appointment for next Saturday to look at some human hair wigs. there's alot of pretty wigs out there...both synthetic and human hair. what happened to your hair? my hair loss runs in the family and also may be from one of my medications. im glad you liked my song on my page!
Karina
glad you like the song...i listen to it alot. it really is true...that we are all precious no matter what. sorry to hear about what happened to your hair. i know it can be very difficult emotionally. i would think people would not laugh if you wore a wig though...most people cant tell or are you talking about people that you know? well..you have a friend in me. i know what you are going through. im a little nervous about wearing a wig but im trying to think of it as a fashion piece like earrings or make up. i understand about panic attacks and depression. many of my family have it. you come on my page anytime you want and listen to the song!! blessings to you!
Hi Karina
i hope you are having a good day! the weather here is really mild right now so its nice. ive been watching my little grandson today and its so fun!! hope all is well with you!

Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
peace,
natalie

I saw you read my blog :)
The hair on the picture isn't my wig, that still was my real hair, I haven't got a good picture of me with the wig yet. When I got one, I'll upload it. But it is comfy to wear, after a while I don't even notice it anymore!

Dai, coraggio! Vedrai che troverai la soluzione giusta! Un abbraccio.

Yes, I do wear a wig. This one is human hair and is much easier to deal with than synthetic. It's not always comfortable, so I don't wear it at home. I'm also a bit hesitant to use tape because I'm not sure what chemicals are going to leech into my skin, so I just ensure it's tight enough (although that's not fool proof and it does sometimes slip off). In my opinion, getting a good quality wig is so much easier than managing a full head of hair. It requires way less time to look great, you don't have to wash it as much and you can get ready in just minutes. There are benefits to wearing them!

Sure...some people know that I wear a wig, others don't. You don't have to tell people if you don't want to and in many cases it's irrelevant.

Three months ago, I never thought I would say I am used to wearing wigs, but I actually am almost there!
Good luck!

glad you like the song...i listen to it alot. it really is true...that we are all precious no matter what. sorry to hear about what happened to your hair. i know it can be very difficult emotionally. i would think people would not laugh if you wore a wig though...most people cant tell or are you talking about people that you know? well..you have a friend in me. i know what you are going through. im a little nervous about wearing a wig but im trying to think of it as a fashion piece like earrings or make up. i understand about panic attacks and depression. many of my family have it. you come on my page anytime you want and listen to the song!! blessings to you!
