Well, it was time to change my site around a bit after having been on the site for a while. When I first logged on here I thought I would easily be the person having alopecia the longest. I was a little surprised to find out that there quite a bit of us that have had alopecia for some time.
I first developed alopecia at age 5 maybe 6 years old. I went through all the same issues as everyone else although I will say that we didn't try too hard for a "cure". My grandmother had au since she was a little girl so there was already an understanding that shots and heatlamps and creams were not going to bring my hair back. But we did try everything but the shots. LOL. I won't say that alopecia has controlled my life, but it certainly has had an affect. Some good, some not so good. Since I have had it through pretty much every stage and change of life I can honestly say its been a struggle.
I love to travel and explore new places and new things to do. I have lived all over. I grew up in Chicago but have lived in St. Louis, New York, Japan, San Francisco, Australia and now I back in Chicago.
I love college football. I went to the University of Notre Dame for my masters degree and so I am a fierce and loyal fan. Charlie Weis will succeed!!! And to all of you Big Ten fans out there I send my condolences. USC fans? Just wait.
I am logged on to this site quite a bit these days for several reasons. Mostly to make friends and talk and share experiences about alopecia. I wish there had been a place like this when I was 5 or 12 or 18 or 28 years old. If you are a parent of a child with alopecia talk to some of us that have had it since childhood. Hopefully we can share some thoughts with you.
Yes lets put something together, I'm intouch with a few of the women in the area and we will be getting together on Monday. I will let them know also, I'm so excited to meet others in the area.
hey frank thanks for the comment wanted to say hello hope all is well with you - enjoyed chatting the other day it was pretty fun wasn't it what a crowd :)
Everything is good with me how about with you?
I think it was my ticker you saw for the countdown haha.
I went to my 1st conf last year and had a blast. I allready booked my room and flights.
Check again with the hotel they should have plenty of space and make sure you tell them you are with NAAF.
Last year there were 600 attendees I believe it is usually 800-1000.
The price does go up May 21st.
What kind of work do you do?
I really like it hear too.
I am so sorry I am just now getting back to you. It has been crazy the past month. I talked with Stephanie from the Chicago Group and she would like to get together sometime in the next week or 2 do you think you can make it. Give me some days I can run by her and we can figure this out I will call you this week to talk more.
hi, i bought them more than 2 months ago now but although i put them on my face to see how they look, i never actually wore them. Will try them on in a month's time for my wedding. I bought them for that occasion, because i hate my "pencil" eyebrows on photos but am quite satisfied for everyday. However the hair eyebrows look impressive and am sure they will look great. I'm only concerned on their durability, but will definitely last for my wedding day.
I am going to call stephanie today and see what day or night is for good her and try to get a hold of Jackie and Marisol too. How does next week look for you.
Hey,
I think the night look better for everyone due to work kids etc. so I am going to email you my number also I did lose my cell phone so I think i may have your number but if not email me it again.
I wanted to share this with you. Sorry it took me so long to post something.
Do you have a close friend named John? I know you have one named Jeff
Hope you are having a great day!!!
Frank
I first developed AA when I was about 10 years old. I was AU by 15. I did the usual round of doctors and treatments. When I was 15 I decided I couldn't take the disappointment of more failed treatments and so decided to stop looking and get on with accepting it.
But I can say I have never accepted it. I have just learned to live with it.
It is a constant in my life and if I was honest I think about it everyday and in most situations.
I have made the best of my life. I have succeeded in most areas except for personal relationships. I am perceived as being strong and for coping well with this condition and to all intent and purposes I have (or at least that is how I appear to the outside world). But in reality everyday is a struggle and more so lately. This is a very lonely heartbreaking condition.
It is great to have found this website, even if at times it is hard to hear people’s stories.
Hey Frank it's good to hear from you. Alopecia and life in general is a roller coaster isn't it? sometimes I feel great and then reality slaps me in the face like a giant hand; the reality of Alopecia. sometimes I would just like to be normal. other than that I am alright.
Last week sucked though...one of my spouse' friends died. So that sucked.
Hey have you seen Jeffrey's eyebrow pics? What do you think?
Hi Frank, I was great meeting you last night. I enjoyed our discussions it's nice hearing the different experiences and views. I hope to see you again next month!
Frank, what's going on dude? things still alright? I got an email from Jeff Segal, a professional makeup artist who does eyebrow tatoos among other things, and I'de like to share it with you. I'll send it to you. He's in Chicago right now! I got his name from a referal from someone here who got their brows done by him.
Hi Frank! Thanks for dropping by and saying hi. We are Midwest neighbors! I am in Chicago once in awhile (mostly for shopping) and the city is such a fun place. I'm a really nervous driver though, so I avoid driving in Chicago traffic and take the Metra train instead. Are you a Cubs fan? I am a huge Brewers fan and it is always so much fun to be at Cubs vs. Brewers games and take part in the fan rivalry. It sounds like you have been all over the world- that is terrific! I am applying for internships this summer in Bangalore, India- I figure it is time for me to step outside of the US and give another country a try.
This website was such a great place for me to find because for the last 8 years I thought I was the only person on this planet who had alopecia! Talking with others has been the absolute best experience I have had in this crazy alopecia journey so far. Getting advice and words of support from others who have dealt with the same thing has helped me get through this more than I ever could have imagined. I am shaving my head for the first time this Friday and getting my first full lace wig on Saturday, so look for pictures in the near future! Take care and talk to you soon - Natalie
P.S. Here is the website to my Reiki instructor- she is amazing and has helped me grow as a human being so much. http://www.universalhealing.info/
Also, my Reki instructor also incorporates the Law of Attraction into her work; it's the idea that your thoughts and words and actions (basically your entire energy) attracts the same. So if you are a negative person who constantly whines, you will find yourself repeatedly in ill health and in car accidents, etc. Whereas if you channel positive thoughts and actions, you will attract people and situations in your life that enhance it and keep you successful and healthy. Here is a link to the book on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Law-Attraction-Book-transform/dp/1598697757/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1239686298&sr=1-1
They both kind of seem like a lot of mumbo-jumbo and nonsense at first, but both Reiki and the Law of Attraction have really helped make me a more relaxed, positive, and accepting person. Hope you enjoy it :)
Frank!!!
I've been thinking of you. How the heck are you?
All is good here. I am heading to Boston to meet with 14 or so Alopecian friends this thursday, Want to join us?
I hope you had a great birthday back in July and hope you had a fabulous summer.
Please keep in touch I miss you.
Hey Frank...I hope things have slowed down at work for you. You need to contact Tony Jordan on here. He'll be coming to our Holiday party on the 29th and bringing another guy with him so you won't be alone anymore! Anyway, he's having a hard time right now and though maybe you could chat with him.
Have a very Merry Christmas and I'll see you on the 29th!

I hope you decide to come.
