Hi Everyone! I am so glad that i found this web site! I have been losing my hair since i was 15. i never really worried about it because i have always been able to cover it up untill recentley. can't wait to meet some new friends :)
*~*~*~*God doesnt give us what we can handle, he helps us handle what we are given!*~*~*~*~
Hi Ashley! Yes I am actually wearing a wig :) It's a Locks of Love wig. I've worn them since I was in the 7th grade and I love them!! You create a mold of your head in the beginning of the process and then the hair suctions to your head so that it stays on and you can swim with it and curl it and do everything that normal hair does. It's great!!!
ashley- hands down the best wigs are freedom wigs, but that's for people who have total hair loss- and they get pretty pricey. i think the best synthetic or just lightweight real hair wigs are ones that have a mono top so it looks like a part-
in my opinion lace wigs seem like a lot of hassle and uncomfortable.
I got my wig from a place called "Kathleen's Creative Expressions" near Chicago, IL. It was about $1,600 but I think it was totally worth it! I buy tape from a local wig store for about $3 a pack, and the packs usually last me about 3 weeks. I hope that helps :)
Hi Ashley, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us.
I'm glad I could help, Ashley! Let me know if you have any other questions- I asked like a gazillion questions when I first went through this, so don't feel shy! :)
Hi, dear Ashley , I'd like to know about lace wig , too, I think this is the best way for us , because we can do everything with that , like, swimming , sleeping , long traveling , do sport, and everything that we can do with our natural hair ... I lost my hair 5 years ago and I use cortisone , my hair came back , but when i leave the triamhexal injection my hair fall out again , I decided that leave the treatment because the cortisone is too bad for Body Health......:)
Heyy, thanks for your comment, what you wrote has just made me feel so much better about it. I told him btw, and he was completly fine with it? like he said it didnt matter to him n it doesnt make him see me any different, i guess thats i ask for:)x So thank you so much :)
Hi Ashley,
I read your bio and you are right. You and my daughter seem to be going through the same thing at the same ages. I am sure your mother hurts when you hurt and laughs when you laugh. Watching Natalie go through losing her beautiful hair was hard. Yet watching her not let this alopecia own her was inspiring. You are beautiful , your smile seems contagious. Enjoy life!
Jean
Hi Ashley, it looks REALLY good :)
I´m jeolous (spell?) !
It looks really natural to me, but to be a little bit honest you might ge("paint your hair" , sorry I don´t know HOW to say xd) a more lighter haircolor, you look so beutiful in it ;)
But the darker color is totally OK ! :)
Kram (the swedish word for, hugor something like that ;P
I'm so happy for you. I just knew that your friends would understand and be there for you.
If you decide to shave your hair - try the double sided wig tape. You don't have to use anything to get it off and it holds pretty good, plus as soon as I walk in the house I'm pulling my wig off and then I just put new tape on when I'm ready to wear it again.
Glad to hear it :-) I wouldn't have guessed you wore a hear piece from your pictures.
You know I live in the Scottsdale AZ area and a place I used to go to get my hair pieces made (I'm male) ended up making hair pieces for some pretty famous actors. You'd be amazed at who is bald and we never knew it. One elderly male actor who is very "macho", and the other gentlemen we've seen for decades, and probably never knew. It wouldn't be fair for me to disclose their names, but the salon owner showed me pictures of the pieces he made for them.
In any case, your hair piece looks great. And while I'd say being bald is harder for women, women have an advantage over men I think in that they don't need to show as much hairline -- i.e. sideburns, etc. Men in general need to show more hairline.
Regarding buying wigs, make sure you visit or call some stores for "blacks" -- many wear extensions, and some wear wigs (such as my wife). I don't really like the term black ... or African American ... as my wife is from the Caribbean, but in any case check those out and also there is much to be bought on line of course.
You should see how fast my wife can change hair styles!!!! She gets tons of complements. You can see one of her pictures here (www.JoyfulMaterializing.com on the About page), but not in her somewhat shorter hair piece which she wears often now and gets tons of complements. Slightly curly / wavy hair is better for her. If you write me I'll ask her for the name -- it is a very snazzy, modern style (but shorter than I see from your picture).
Hi Ashley, I'm doing fine. The weather is finally starting to warm up here - not sure if I'm going to like that. Hate wearing a wig when it's hot. I started wearing scarves out and about recently but I'm still a little uncomfortable with it at times.
It's o.k. that you have not shaved your head yet . If and when you feel like doing it you will - maybe you will never have to and the hair will grow back. Otherwise, I hope that you are doing well.
