Hi all,
My hair started coming out shortly after having my son 18 yrs. ago. It has been a very difficult journey for me. Ironically I was a hairdresser and so I knew some of the best tricks to hide the hairloss. I am glad I found this website to know I am not alone and other people can relate. Its very difficult for me to talk about with friends or family even though most of the women on my moms side and a sister suffer with alopecia. We have never talked about it with eachother but we do notice the new wigs and weaves and realize another one has bit the dust. My husband has never made me feel anything other than attractive and I thank God for that. I am not at the point where I am ready to shave but I am longing for the freedom of not having to hide any more. ADDENDUM-( July 6, 2010-It has now been almost 1year since I shaved my head now and I feel free as ever!)
Sorry it took so long for me to respond. I am pregnant and the morning sickness has been unreal. Lace fronts cant say never brought one. I have always made what I guess are like a lacefront. I have found a place in Alexandria that makes cranial prosethesis and the insurance pays for them so that is my next step. Feeel free to write back whenever
Thanks. I got started making them because of my alopecia and having AU can be a hard thi ng to adjust too.. I don't like wigs so I just sat down and started rumaging through ideas.
HERE IN MY HOMETOWN HAMPTON I'M LOOKING TO FIND SOME 4 LESS PRICE I LOVE THEM THEY R 350 HERE SO LET ME KNOW IF U KNOW WHERE OK THIS A FULL LACE FRONT NOT A HALF ONE THEY R A LITTLE CHEAPER THXS....
Hi Pat, welcome to the "Sisterhood" I bet you feel so free! We should get together for National Bald Out Day, do a Maryland~Pennsylvania thing. Congrats and "you go girl"
Thanks Pat! I like your hair a lot..it´s perfect for you type of hair..I have telogen effluvium and I still have but little hair...I can´t image myself with a wig because I don´t know if you can live a normal life...I bought a natural hair ine but it hurts me at the front...Did you get used to it?
Thanks Pat for your reply!! I read your post about your stupid boss and I want to congratulate for your attitude. I don´t understand why there are people that love to bother others without any reason...some people say that THEY have a problem of low self esteeem and have to show their superiority in front of others.
hello there sorry iam just reading ur comment i get them here where i lived studio 238 lady name marie sales them and puts them on 4 u in newport news va tell her i sent u her # is 757-753-2921.... and let me know if u get one thxs...
Wow..Pat. I think you're strong for shaving your head. Interesting enough though I'm a guy, I didn't shave my head until a member here named Crowned Regal cut hers. Please feel at home here.
Well..I guess I shouldn't have used the words strong. I'm sure you already have a confidence that grows with time. I'm sure you get plenty of support from your husband and family.
I do use the headblade and shave everyday. I often go without a cap so I can let the sun blend in the scars. People seem to respond good the look. I'm going to be doing a project soon that I'm hoping to use a grant to present we bald people to the world in beauty. Say a prayer for it.
I'm doing good Pat. I have enjoyed my summer going
to the beach a couple times and just walking around
the park here in Pittsburgh. My head enjoys the
sunshine.

Hi Pat I just thought I'd stop by to say hello. I love your new photo. You look very pretty shaved. Your eyes really stand out. I shave my head sometimes, but I have this roll on the back of my head! Maybe one day I'll rock my shaved head too!
Hey Pat,
I am so sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your note. Most of the people I work with know I have alopecia, because I am pretty upfront about it, My eyebrows and eyelashes come and go so some people ask, Not to mention I change my wigs up pretty often!! LOL I would love to keep in contact with you
Hello Pat,
I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Donna, I'm new to alocepia world, but not to alocepia. I'm looking for friendship with those that know how alopecia affects you. I look forward to chatting with other women in our world. I live in Baltimore. God Bless You!
I emailed this picture to my 25 year old son. He asked me if I was going to stop wearing my wig and how does daddy feel about my look. I told him his daddy encouraged me to shave my head and that I will continue to wear my wig to work. He replied, Cool! what's up for the weekend. Lol.
Hello Pat,
How are you? I have been so busy at work, that I have not signed on in awhile. My husband, kids, and BFF are cool with my new look, but one of my sisters made a negative comment. I really could care less.
Live in the netherlands is ok! Its raining, but it is okey!
And by you?
I was in Norway and clim on the rock. It was a huge clim to come there.
But the view was asome!!!
Pat, I must say I was looking around on the site and stumbled onto your picture. After reading the office blunder I love the way you fired back. I have been living with alopecia since my youth and this is a hard and sensitive thing to come to grips with. I believe that I am a beautiful and a special person and I get the same feeling from you. People are so ignorant, instead of being sensitive to others for some of us we love to put someone else down or say things without any sensitivity for others. I love your attitude and you wear it well. I also love your photos.
