Profile Information:

Relationship Status:
Engaged
About Me:
I've had alopecia areata for about 12 years now and I've been wearing a wig for 6 years. My mother started a support group in my area (Rochester, NY) so that I would have the opportunity to finally meet other people with this condition. She is the most amazing woman. I have a wonderful fiance of almost 5 years who loves me exactly the way I am. I am so appreciative of the people who take the time to start websites and on-line groups because it raises much needed awareness and provides support for all "alopecians" no matter what stage of this condition we're in.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia areata
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

Hey Elizabeth! Remember me from D.C.? Are you going to Louisville this year? Hope to see you there, my mom is coming with me. She also started a support group in our hometown when I was younger. Aren't moms awesome?
  • Sherry Schaefer

When I get together with you Elizabeth, my cheeks hurt from so much laughing...you are TOO funny! Looking forward to seeing you at our next NAAF meeting that the wonderful mother you mentioned heads up. Take care...

Thank you...I got it from Madeline's Hair Replacement in Saco Maine where I am from. My hair is a custom piece. They took a plaster mold of my head and then had it custom made to match my scalp....it fits great! They have done hair systems for people from out of state without them having to come in several time before and it works out great. Also we are contracting with most insurance companies so we file all the insurance paper work for our clients. My wig and most of our clients is cover usually from 80 to 100 percent with an alopecia diagnosis. I actually work there now in the office but I am apprenticing under the owner to learn the trade! I graduated this past may with a business degree and the owner offered me a job. I could not have been more happy. I jumped at the chance to be a part of a company that helps so many people who, like me, have lost their hair. It has been the best decision I ever made I wanted to be able to help others with alopecia and this has been the perfect opportunity! If you are at all interested let me know and I’ll send you our information but if not no worries and thank you for the compliment! : )

He love's the east view mall and so do I lol! When I come up in the fall we are going to go to the casino , I think it is in syracuse?

    Hi Elizabeth,

    Hi Elizabeth,

I found the link to the Rochester Chapter of the NAAF last night and was just about to e-mail Mrs. Figura (is that your Mom?) to ask about the next meeting...perhaps I'll see you there. Thanks for the invite!
  • Katie

Sorry for the late response!!! I am from Upstate NY- but I will have to leave that group because I am moving to Texas!! Where are you from?
  • Katie

Wow that's close to me! I am from Watertown. I didn't write it because I wasn't sure that you would know where it is! I did some of my practicums in Syracuse at LeMoyne elementary. What do you teach?
  • Allie

Hi, Elizabeth I came to the Rochester meeting a few weeks ago. You were right, I'm glad I joined both groups. Can't wait for the next meeting in Roch. Allie
  • Tony

Hi Elizabeth, I must have fallen alseep at the wheel and forgot to ask how your meeting with Assemblyman Joe Morelle's assistant went.
  • Tony

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Big round of applause for taking your time and giving it a go. I read somewhere on the NAAF website that there is a Federal bill in the works for Medicare / Medicaide patients. I think the number was $700/yr. Third party payers (i.e. private insurance) usually set up and follow the minimums set by federal insurance.
  • Maureen

Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for the add. I talked to your Mom last night. I will be attending the support meeting on Thursday. Look forward to meeting all of you.
    Have a great day!

Hi Elizabeth, Do you happen to know the locations of any support groups downstate? I live south of you in the Mid Hudson Valley and just can't seem to find anything around here. Thanks, Jamie
  • Maureen

Hi Elizabeth, I can't wait to meet you your Mom and all the other Alopeicans. . I'm trying to talk my son into coming, but if there aren't any men going I think he would be very embarrassed. He has said no to me so far lol. See you soon!

Hi Elizabeth, It was so great to meet you and your Mom! Thanks for the meeting. I took my wig to Sherry and she put the silk in it. It's better, Except that now I have to wear wig tape and of course it is irritating my skin.Well you can't win them all lol! Take care.

    Hello Elizabeth,

I read your story and was wondering if you or your mom have any tips and/or advise for me on starting a support group here in Monroe, NY 10950.

I have searched and there are none in my area.

    Thank you!

    Shannon

    Hello Elizabeth,
Finally I am getting a chance to respond to you. I am just simply busy. I am not a techy so online communication is not on top of my list of must dos in the evening. I must admit it is soooo great to be part of a group of Fabulous People.
  • Karen Froehner

    Hi Elizabeth,

Wow another week done! My week ends today on Saturday at 5pm. I waiting to go to dinner with my husband - yes! I'm hoping Thai! I will be going to the Bald Girls do Lunch gathering on Sunday.
Did you ask where is Wappingers Falls? It is in Dutchess County - north of Fishkill and south of Poughkeepsie, New York . It is also approximately 1 1/2 hours north of NY City up the Taconic Parkway.
  • Karen Froehner

Hi! I'm actually not in Buffalo yet. I am going there in 2 weeks for orientation and then I move up there around the middle of August. I'm pretty excited, but nervous at the same time about being in a new place. Do you like Rochester? I drove around there when I went to look at SUNy Geneseo...looks pretty nice.
  • Alex

No problem! I've been in Buffalo for a little over a week now, and it's definitively not home. I love the school I'm at though. Congrats on getting a job!
