About Me:
I am a 30 year old living and studying to be an Early Childhood Teacher in Dunedin.

I have been having problems with hairloss for the past 2 years.

I have been diagnosed with Diffuse Alopecia or CTE although I don't quite know for sure.

It has majorly impacted on my life in all aspects and I am finding it difficult to cope, which is why I joined this site. It is extremely comforting to know I am not the only person facing these issues and it is so helpful to talk to people who understand.

I am currently in the position of trying to find a wig as am finding it very difficult to continue my normal day feeling like this. The transition period is difficult and learning how to cope with this is something new to me.

I am usually a very outgoing , fun and happy person and I really need to find that in me again and with the help of this site I am hoping I will!!!

XXX:)

I enjoy being around family and friends and want to travel. I love burlesque and want to try aerial silks :)

I look forward to meeting you all and hearing your stories.

Hi, Jennah! Thanks for the nice compliment!Yes, those care my sweetie pies--siamese, cornish rex, and tuxedo. :) Hope things are good with you!

Hey there Jennah :-) Thank you for your note... I am sorry that we have to go through this. As you know, there are good days and bad days, and it's so nice to have someone to relate to about this. I almost wish in place of his burning and hair loss, I could have AA or AU, at least there wouldn't be so much pain. I'm glad that you're in a relationship where you can be supported through this. I'm always here to talk, it is better not feeling so alone in all this as you're right, it does affect every aspect of life. In trying to cope, I'm trying so hard to be positive when thinking of how life will be wearing scarfs and hats, and eventually maybe a wig. It's not the end of the world, right? Sometimes, it seems like it. I hope you're well, and are having better days. -Sarah

I LOVE your kitty with the wig - sooooo cute!

Hello Jennah! I don't know, that's the thing... they say I could either have CTE, Seborrheic Dermatitis, or FPB... I HATE this just as much as you. Every day I think of shaving off the rest and sporting a scarf. I know we spoke about staying active, but I'm so depressed over this, it's very hard to do that. Yesterday, I had another scalp biopsy, we'll see if they can be any more conclusive than the first one. It's super frustrating when all they can do for you is give you chemicals, and say to try rogaine. That is a bunch of bull!! I wonder how you're doing often, and wish we lived close by to go through this together, because truly, nobody understands unless they have to go through it personally. I've seen 5 dermatologists, and a person from the hair sciences of Colorado. EVERY single doctor doesn't know exactly what it is, TE, CTE, FPB, Seb. Derm..... Whatever it is, I pray every day for it to leave. How have you been doing? -Sarah K.

Jen! Thanks for writing. I look forward to reading your notes :-) I just saw that you like burlesque! My friend Brittany has so many friends in that business and has done it herself too (in Colorado Springs). I'm so sorry that we have to go through this every day and alter our lives to great extents. You're right, 'putting some cream on it' is not necessarily the answer. I've been to a naturopathic physician too, on b-vitamins, biotin, pro-biotics, herbs, zinc, all trying to help out this dreadful situation atop my head. You asked how bad mine is, I lost about 50% of my hair. It used to be super thick, curly, dark, and wonderful. Now it's just so thin on the top, on the left side, and my scalp is sensative, burns at times throughout the day, there is redness especially where the worst spots of loss are (in front, on top). I also get a lot out in the shower, and if I run my fingers through the remaining hair, a lot comes out. It's depressing, but I have to keep reminding myself that we are not our hair, and to try to go on despite what others may think. What is your pain like? Also, you mentioned that you're on a medicine, correct? Is one of the side effects to that medicine hair loss? I wonder... hope not though. Whenever I look in the mirror, I imagine myself with no hair.. (not exactly a pretty sight). I wonder whenever I do shave it all off (there will come a day), I will want some work done as selfish as that sounds. However, at that point, I have got to try to be more satisfied with the way I see myself especially with the hair shaved, and a few things would certainly help with that.
I bet New Zealand is beautiful, there is a guy that works at the airport who is from there too.
I hope your partner is more understanding with your situation otherwise, it's important to have support. I've got my mom and a few friends, but everyone seems to like to think it'll get better. That's positive and all, but they're not experiencing this, and therefore cannot understand I suppose. Have you ever had a scalp biopsy done?

Yes, I adore clouds... they're peaceful, they're in another world where there is no judging, no problems, and float freely without stress. I love mountain clouds the best though! They move so fast, and when you're up in the mountains, the clouds are much more visable and fluffy, sometimes encompassing the whole mountain but only for 10 minutes. It's a nice mental vacation.

Oh, Aurora is a nice sounding town and the name of the princess in Sleeping Beauty, but it's really not that great of a town, suburbia in parts, cookie-cutter neighborhoods, poorer neighborhoods, a few malls, nothing too special though:-)

I hope we both have a good day tomorrow, and hope that you stay strong too, this is not easy, could be worse, but darn it... let's hope for better.

    Good night :-)-Sarah K

Hi Jen! Yeah, sorry I haven't been on too much, been watching my neighbor's animals. How have you been doing? As for other pastimes, I really dont' have to many... I'm a student trying to get into nursing school... this has actually held me back a bit.... but darn it! I'm trying to not let it anymore.

  • Sarah

I didnt' mean to send that just yet.... anyway, I hope you're well Jennah. thanks for your notes, yes, the scalp pain is a bummer... the redness, the hair loss, man, I want to know what is causing this. Anyway, I'm going to a wig store this afternoon... see what they have. Have a good day Jen! -sarah

Thanks! I think I got the pink zebra stripe scarf at a Jewish store here in Chicago. :) Technically it's labeled as a pre-tied bandana. The label one this one says "It's Younique", which there are links to on myheadcoverings.com. I have found beautiful scarves at headcovers.com, too.

Thanks for adding me. It was nice talking, and I love love love your photos...

  • Storm_Uchiha

Thank you for adding me. ^^ It was a lot of fun talking last night.

  • Jennah

Alopecia is so hard..deciding what to do with the hair you have left - to shave not to shave. It is also difficult to find a good wig, one to fit you as every individual is different, but the road to finding what is right for you - be it bald, scarves synthetic, human hair! It is all so confusing...hopefully I am on the right track...I just want some of my confidence back...I don't want to loose my spark...

  • Francie

Hi yes it is my real hair :). I have lost my hair off and on. it usually cycles in a two/three year period gone and two years grown back. I have reached the two year mark and have only had small patches on and off, usually at this point and time its falling out pretty heavily. so i am really lucky at this point right now. sometimes i wonder if it is hormonal for me because your body goes through so maybe changes from age 7-21! idk its just a guess. but ill never know what will happen so im just happy for this blessing now! although i still dont have lashes yet and my eyebrows are still sparse. i am going to post my flickr account on my page in a few so people can look at the wigs i have worn and makeup over the last several years. ok i blabbed alot! - francie :)

  • Francie

Thank you!<3<3. Either way if it stays or goes again I will always have a deep connection to alopecia and plan on in the future on doing cosmetics that benefit people with hairloss :)

  • Becca

I am so sorry, I just saw your comment about my blonde wig. It's a Yaffa wig and I got it off Ebay.

  • LN_DARK

Hey Jennah, I am going to buy my first wig soon...have been putting it off for so long but I am finding it increasingly difficult to do anything with this thin hair! Its a big step and my friends still don't know about it so not sure how to approach the topic. I was actually thinking of shaving it off in secret and just turning up in a wig one day! I guess I keep hoping that it will get better but after three years of thinking this I think I just need to take action now! Have a nice weekend :)

  • LN_DARK

I think the red hair looks fab on you by the way!

  • LN_DARK

Hey, hope you're well. Like your mum, mine also doesn't think I should wear a wig...she says she can't see much difference but I find that hard to believe! Yesterday I booked a holiday and now I think I am finally realising that I will have to deal with wigs/scarves/hats sometime soon...by August I will have shaved for sure. Very worried about how to manage this situation while travelling around and staying in hostels or camping!I'll have to improvise! How are you doing? :)

  • Beth

Heey. I'm doing well. I bleached all of my hair. I'm actually bleaching it again right now as I type to get ALL the black out. Yes my mother sent me that wig. It's SO pretty. Looks like my hair did. I love it! I can have my old hair and my new blonde. My own is so short now though :(BUT the blonde covers the thinness so well.
How are you and what's new?

  • Jocelyn

Hi Jennah! Sorry I didn't see your request until now. Hope all is well!

  • guadalupe

Hello sorry I hadn't logged in.
I get it online it great quality and 100% human hair:) I love it
  • sarah

    Hi Jennah,
Thanks for the comment. I have had alopecia for 5 years on and off and every time I have a flare up I always take the fusion herbs. I am also on alot of medication and lotions from my dermatologist which have been quite successful. The drug is called "methotrexate" maybe try it? and lotion is called "clobetasol" its fantastic. what type of alopecia do you have? the pics of me are of last december, and my hair is sooo much better, i have no bald spots and its about 3cm long, i never shaved or cut my hair when it was falling out so still have some long bits aswell so my hairstyle is very unflattering but i dont mind until it grows enough to cut into a bob. Is this your first time of having alopecia? are u bald all over? how does ur family and friends relate? also what are you doing to help condition besides the fusuion?
    Sarah xx

  • sarah

Hi Jennah! Thnx for ur reply! I'm sorry to hear about ur hair I know exactly how you feel! My medications
Are all about suppressing my immune system to stop that aggressive infection of the alopecia
These had worked they are called methotrexate and are taken once weekly and also take around 3 months to kick in !but they really have worked I have a full head of hair
No shedding and just waiting for the length to grow! Combined with the fusiion herbs! Also ask ur dr for predisolone it is a steroid which also helps keep the hair and stops infection! These a short tee
Drug can also cause bad side effects. Weight gain etc, but they work. I took them for 4 months on different strengths. Also get your vitamin d checked dr told me there has been a study that low vit d can cause hair loss! I take 3 vit d tabs a day as I was low!
Pls show me a pic of ur hair now without a wig! Also ask for a lotion you apply onto scalp, it's called clobestasol 0.1% apply with cotton bud on bald patches. Worked wonders for me too there is a lot of things to try u just need to see more than one doctor I have
Got 3 opinions from dermatologists and the last one was a specialist in hair and has helped the most now I have hair:) xxx
  • sarah

that's fine. I'm sure a normal doctor would be able to prescribe them but I have never asked only my dermatologist. I have had Alopecia on and off for 5 years it will grow back then Fall out again.. But I have never used the current medications I'm on so hopefully this helps it to not fall out again.. Yes I have had a very stressful life.. Always things coming up.. But it's also a autoimmune disorder that ur body cannot fight.. Just go to ur doctor and ask about them see if they think they would help but I do have Alopecia areta different to u xx hope this helpsSarah
  • ShoCorona

Hola chica...... howz you and life treating ya at the mo?? Sorry I'm not really on much on here anymore. Are you on Facebook at all?? Good taste with liking the Horror Pops too hun!! Ooh hope you like the pic of Imelda May I have added here for ya! I loved her dress that night :) hiPpy hugs shO :) xx

  • Robbi

Thanks for the compliment on my glasses and wig. Actually, my friend gave it to me, but it's a synthetic Jon Reneau smartlace I think. :)

  • neverthoughtidenduphere

aww thanks, i appreciate it. i was scared to shave mine too. i guess it just requires enough frustration lol. after i did it i felt great. yeah i looked like a boy, but i felt like i was "in control" of my hair loss. now, 2 months later, i cant say i still feel the same. hair loss, is hair loss, u cant hide it. but i really do enjoy not having to fuss with the long hair i had. ur losing ur hair anyways, might as well try it. just be prepared to always be stared at haha.

  • ShoCorona

Hola chica! ooh what tatt are you getting?? I'm getting a new tatt too, what we like eh *chuckles* hippy hugs shO :) xx

  • ShoCorona

  • Lisamarie

Hey! Email me! I just got my first wigs last year. It's a bit of a love hate relationship with them. Email is jacqinthebox at gmail. Thanks for the friend request.
  • Kate

That sounds awesome, when suits you? I work shifts so I'm randomly around... Coffee or wine? :)

  • Kate

Awesome! Could you do a lunch sometime? When do you start studying, next week? I work at the airport and live in Brighton, but my kids go to school in town so I'm there a lot. We can work around you.
  • Annie

Not at all-I prefer the Adriana, but it is more expensive. They are very similar in style, but the Adriana is a hand tied cap and the Gisele is wefted. The Adriana is also slightly more of a ringlet vs. the Gisele (but is is a very slight difference once brushed) Go to vogue wigs if you want to see videos where they show the inside of the cap. The hand tied, just moves a little better, and if the hair separates, you won't see the lines and your scalp--it will look more real. Also, I found that the Adriana didn't frizz as much or I guess as fast on the underside (nape of neck area) where my wigs always start looking frizzy first. The hair seemed to be a little different texture. Hope that helps, and feel free to ask anything else. I know it is a pain to find a wig that works for you and I am thrilled with these ones, so happy to help out another person. Take Care

  • Lexi

    I should be that talented!!

  • Paula

Hey thanks for you wee massage. I wish I had seeked help or support earlier in my life as my hair has been thinning for some time now and Ive suffered in silence. Now I have discovered hair fibers, sprays and finally toppers, wiglets and hairpieces wat ever you want to call them. Ive found this web site and wig support which is amazing. You look like you have lots of hair but we often see our selves in the worst most possible light eh?? Have you tried toppers? Another hair friend and I are swapping toppers by post to try each others and see wat we like. We have just sent each other the first swap this week and we are both waiting eagerly. Its expensive to post from the US to NZ so we will combine post on purchases too. You have a stunning face so if you decided to shave you would look amazing. I think Ill do it one day but Im just not ready yet.
Nice to hear from you Jennah and keep in touch.
    PS look up www.wigsupport.com

  • Paula

Im an early childhood teacher too I have been for the past 25 years..... makes me sound old but Im only 40. I still feel 30!!
What company sold you an expensive topper? And whats wrong with it?? There are some curly ones I think, there are some girls on Wig Support who have curly hair too..... wonder what they do?? Also you can curl synthetic toppers or wigs as Ive seen it on youtube, its with curlers and hot water I think. You would have to buy a cheap one to test it out?? Ive always wondered if we can make a topper out of a wig? Ill research that next LOL its like a hobby. I do wish I had found toppers in my 30's I might of been a lot happier and more confident instead of worrying about my hair all the time. Not that anyone would of known the battle I was having with myself not even my closest friends. :O(
I figure Ill use toppers as long as I can as it looks more natural when I wear my hair up.
Are you on the secret face book page? Keels from Christchurch just introduced me its really cool too.
Ive got 3 kids, 6 year old Macee, 4 year old Jimmy and 3 year old Jed. I also have 2 young Schnauzer puppies who we hope to breed one day. Busy as in our house LOL.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Paula

PS you could share hair with us and postage if we can organize it. :O)

  • Paula

Did you get my link to the secret FB page? Its not the alopecia world one.
I didn't start having kids till I was 33 so there is plenty of time for you yet LOL. And your step daughter will be old enough to babysit which is the perfect family set up HE HE.
Wow you and your partner have been together for ages and you sound like your still madly in love? Rico and I have been together for about 8 years now and 3 kids and 2 dogs later we are still hanging in there LOL. Hard work sometimes!!!

  • Kirsten

Hi Jennah, I saw my derm today and we were talking about AGA hair loss and he follows the research of the top AGA in women researcher (she's in California) and her extensive research on it has shown the only thing that helps if you get it in your 20's, 30's, 40's - basically before and during menopause are the anti-androgen medications and that minox does nothing during those years. Once your post menopausal minox then becomes the only thing that 'does' work. My derm wasn't sure why it seems to work in that order but I just thought I'd let you know, I wondered if maybe giving the Spiro might be worth a go if you don't have any success with the minox? Take care.
  • Kirsten

The Spiro wasn't strong enough for me and I was on the 200mg a day, the maximum dose, so we're trying Cyproterone now, that can only be perscribed by an endocrinologist, and if that doesn't help I'll to give the Flutamide a go, (but your liver has to be monitered very closely on it). Bear in mind I have quite bad hyper androgen issues so if you don't have any problems with that Spiro should be good enough. Another well known American endocrinologist also believes extra estrogen helps women with AGA but I don't know quite how much research has been done on that, but pill therapy of AGA is usually an anti-androgen plus Estrogen - usually through one of the approptiate BC pills (some have a negative impact on AGA).
  • Lexi

Jennah !!  Hello.  Love your pictures.  Do tell, what are you wearing in pictures 25 and 44, picture 6, and picture 46?  Love them all but those are in lighter colors.  Well, exception of the pink.  If I were your age, I would be all over that one, and of course a purple wig!!  Love your tats...I have many!!  Love your cat.  I used to have 6 babies.  Have a great week!!

  • Lexi

    I have no camera!! I know, I know....I have many tattoo's.  Can't recall.  I think 15 total.
