I have had alopecia areata on and off for the past 12yrs. 50% loss at its worst. Had Triamcinolone injections on and off, but not for the last two yrs. Losing hair rapidly again. My daughter, who is now 23, lost all of her hair due to alopecia universalis at 3yrs old and it has, for the most part never returned. No other member of our family, now or in the past, has ever exhibited signs of alopecia.
The Grippers run $4,000 to $6,000, depending on the model and length of the hair. The Gripper Sport is the cadillac of hair prosthesis, and is the most expensive. It's designed for those w/ an active lifestyle who need extra grip. The Gripper Cool is great in warmer weather, and runs about $4,500.
After about a year most people send their's in for repair and maitenance. They shed hair over time like most wigs, and they can add hair to them. I've had mine for over a year when the cap tore .... not sure how, never heard of that happening. I just purchased a second hair piece and I'm sending the old piece back to Follea for repairs.
I have AA with dark patches of hair that I shave off every few days. I now have some peach fuzz filling in some of the bald spots. I wonder if I should be shaving them off or leaving them to grow. Does anyone have any experience with this and if so, did your new peach fuzz grow in?
