About Me:
Hello People, I’m a 36yr old female, single mother from London. I work for the Home Office in immigration. Stressful!
Have been diagnosed with Cicatricial Alopecia (Scarring Alopecia) for about a 1 year but was seeking medical advice about hair loss for a couple years before. Within a space of 3 years my beautiful long thick hair that was always my pride and joy has just fallen out leaving me with bald patches around the crown of my head. My hear has also changed in texture and has become course and wirery not to mention thin and short. This has had such a devastating effect on my confidence and appearance, I no longer go raving or clubbing my social events are occasional family gatherings now. I am only able to wear my hair pulled back in a ponytail which is now aided with a ponytail extension to stop people noticing too much at work. Naturally you search the internet for answers and guidance on this condition but all I find is information that says I have an incurable disease that has no known cause and no proven treatment! . I am currently taking anti inflammatory tablets and using a steroid lotion on the scalp but I have been told this is not a cure and my hair won’t grow back.
This makes me feel even more depressed about the whole thing.
Most girls if they have to resort to wearing wigs and hair pieces want to look as natural as possible but in order to have a Beyonce type wig you need to have her type of money too! Therefore our options are the cheaper more obvious looking hair which again I find knocks confidence rather than build it .
I’m so sad.....

Hello and welcome, Alesia!
I'm sorry you are sad. I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. Let me know if you need help or support. One thing that you might be interested in is my book, written for women, called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" (It just won two national awards!) It has helped a lot of women! There is lot of good info in it, it can answer many questions, and it's a fun read, too. You can find out more on my page. It's available on Amazon.com. Let me know if there's anything else I can do! I am here to help.
