My experience with alopecia started in the spring of 2002 and over the course of about a year developed into alopecia universalis. I am now to the point that I am comfortable with a wig, bald, or a variety of head coverings (e.g. bandanas, hats, etc.). It's not much of a big deal now and I am able to have fun with it.

Hello Angie,
my Alopecia Totalis started 16 years ago.I have only a little hair on my head which I shave complety off.I don t miss my hair.I think you accept yourself with Alopecia,it s very important. There are women who dont like to accept it,some have depression.I read about these women on a German Alopecia site.
Alopecia is not a dangerous illness. We have no hair but it s only hair.
On the other side are psycological problems like depressions dangerous.
I wear nothing on my head when I am outside. It s normal to see some men without hair in the streets. Some men loose their hair, other shave their heads because they like it to be bald.
I wish you a nice day.
