- A thick-haired child, I grew up loathing the unmanageable amounts of curly madness that I grew at an uncanny pace. Around my first year of college, I noticed slow, but gradual thinning around my temples and at the crown of my head. Shortly after my 22nd birthday, the hair started falling out much quicker, and my bald patches seemed to be more and more noticeable.
So, within one short month, I buzzed my head down, had a biopsy, and was surprised to learn that I was experiencing Alopecia Areata. As opposed to the suspected conditions of Telogen Effluvium (as a result of high emotional stress and physiological stress via dieting/losing weight) and/or Androgenetic Alopecia (VERY genetic for me), the biopsy revealed that I'm experiencing a more uncommon presentation of AA - diffuse balding with thinner patches, but no bald-bald spots... yet. ;)
In addition to getting used to being a person sans hair, I'm also gearing up to become a wife, a homeowner, hopefully a mother, and eventually a preschool teacher. I explore music and film, psychology, and spirituality to keep stress in check and focus on the important things.
