About Me:
I have had Alopecia Areata for the past 2 years. I have suffered with Thyroid problems for 10 years and out of the blue 2 years ago my thyroid relpased. I was under some pretty extreme stress at the time and my thyroid condition made me suseptable to other auto immune diseases and the following result was the loss of virtually all hair all over my head and loss of radom body hair.

I had to have my thyroid removed in February 2008 and by August 2008, i had no hair on my head and face at all. Then following a short course of PUVA in the September 08, virtually all of my hair grew back over a 3 month period. Since then though I have continued to lose hair with sporadic re-growth and currently I have about 80% body and facial hair loss, although still quite a lot of hair on my head?! Go figure!

Unfortuantely it now seems that I may have early stages Vitiligo aswell.....the joys hey!! I am currently awaiting some further PUVA treatment that my Dermatologists wishes for me to have as it was such a great success the first time round.

So I have been through a bit of a tough emotional time. Lucky for me I have had the support of a fantasic family, friendship group and a beautiful caring and understand wife! In saying that it doesnt mean that I have pushed her to the brink of insanity at times over the last 2 years :)

At first I found it all very difficult to accept and I wasnt dealing with it at all. I always had huge designer hair and was renowned for it. I work as a Comercial Manager with a high profile sporting organisation and as such my job is people and I am in the lime light bigtime!!! So a tough situation all round.

Eventually I got used to it all, accepted what it was and began to rebuild my life and found my happiness once again, putting everything into prespective along the way.

Now I feel I am in a position to take it on again as I understand what is truely important in life!!! Oh how I put too much importance in appearance!!!

Of course I have down times and still find it all a little unfair, which I am sure we all must feel sometimes. I try to use my conditions to my advantage these days and realise that I am unique and have gone from strength to strength in my career, which could so easily of gone the other way without the support that I had around me!

I like to think that for my experiences if nothing else I truely am now a better person!!!!

I feel the biggest problem with Alopecia, apart from the ignorance of some people (Which I soon found out really doesnt mater - that is their problem) is the lack of psychological support - I have received no help or support from doctors or NHS etc other than medical treatments. Sooooo important!!!!

I guess this is where a site like this comes in and we can come together, share experiences and thoughts and help each other!! Well that is why I am on here and what I am looking for......support from those who truely understand, whilst hopefully providing something to others at the same time.

Here's trying to live every day to the max and like it could be the last!

Keep Smiling!!!!!! :)

Hello. My name is Paul. Welcome to this site. I am 26. I have alopecia totalis since 6 years ago. I do not have any hair on my head. I am used now to be bald. You said you are a Commercial Manager and that you are concerned about how you look like. I have seen some time ago on a site about alopecia, and on that site it was a forum and it was a director of a company who recently got alopecia universalis, and was very concerned about how he looked like, and he said he hired as many people with alopecia as he could that were completely bald so that the attention would not be on him only. I don't know whether in your company you are in a position to hire people or not, but this is a suggestion. Besides, I would be one of the candidates because I do not have a job since 4 months ago. It is difficult to find a job here and I would work anywhere no matter the job including a car washer. Anything. I was working as an accountant with a company here, but because this company wasn't doing very well, many job were lost. If you have any contacts at some companies and if you can help me find a job, I would be very grateful. Of course, I will be very glad to work with your company, but if you are not in a position to hire people for your company, you said you are a Commercial Manager, but companies are organized in different ways, but if you are not in a position to hire people in your company, and if you have contacts at some companies, please help me. Just any job. I would appreciate this very much. You can e-mail me at ndndacd@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
Paul
