- I have had Alopecia Universalis for 17 years...started my Freshman year in college...it was very tough. I initially got Alopecia Areata when I was in 6th grade. Lost about half my hair and then it all grew back. I have struggled a lot with my AU, but try everyday to not let it hold me back from doing anything I want. Somedays I am successful at that and somedays I'm not. I'm lucky I have the love and support of family and Friends
