I have recently gone from Alopecia Areata to Alopecia Universalis....It's been a year since I lost my hair (summer 2009) and I thought my world was crumbling around me. As I finally accepted my Alopecia Areata, this March I lost all my body and then facial hair. I thought that I never would be able to handle this mentally... But- Life must go on and I have learned to accept my New Self :) I have officially come out this summer!!!! I have learned to go bald almost anywhere I go and I'm feeling really good about it!!
Hi Jennefer First time I'm on this site and I believe I'll spend more time to get use to get around.Lost my hair (areata) in 1999 after making a huge change in my life. Was living in Montréal moved to Newfoundland and keep my job in Montréal .The releashionship lasted 6 years and I lost (totalis)the rest 2 years ago. How wonderfull isn't it! I joke quite a lot about it . However never meet anyone since then and wonder! Leaving for Frankfort tonight I'm flight attendant and back tuesday! Hope you day will be full of wonderfull thinks! Renée
Yes, I know -- I miss my eyelashes the most. The eyebrows I can deal with because I use temporary tatoo eyebrows from www.beauti-full-brows.com. They are realistic looking and inexpensive, and can last for days.
I had permanent tattooing on my eyebrows by a highly respected and experienced person, but being an artist I am very visual and to me they didn't look natural enough. Besides that, they faded within a year or two and now I have a blue haze where they eyebrows used to be. (Yes, blue! Even though my brows were tattooed brown!) So now I use false eyelashes much of the time.
If I were you I would try Latisse. It's supposed to keep your eyelashes in or regrow them. You have to get a prescription. I have been using it for three months (no, it doesn't turn my eyes brown), but because I have had universalis so long I am not sure it's working. I saw some hairs grow in but they fell out again.
Anyway, good luck. Also, you might want to read my book, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" You can find out more on my page. It's helped a lot of women and it's a good read!
Hello and welcome, Jennifer!
How are you doing today? I have universalis, too. I am glad it "stopped" -- all my hair fell out everywhere -- because the worst has happened and it's actually not so bad!

Hi Jennifer
Just wanted to welcome you to AW
Glad that you have joined us here.
When will it stop? That is the question we would all like to know. Maybe one day we will have the answer.
My son has had AA since he was 6. Now 13, he has just developed AU.
Have you thought about shaving - taking some control so to speak? That is your choice!
Susan
