About Me:
I'm a 39 year old woman whos been loosing hair for years now. It's finally gotten so bad that I had to stop acting like nothing was wrong and go to a doctor. Yesterday I had a scalp biopsy done and will back in 2 weeks to find out what is going on with my hair.
This whole thing is so humilating. I hate looking in mirrors, dread leaving the house. I have had to cut my hair pretty short and have taken up wearing hats and picked up a wig.

No matter what I do out in, I am still terrified that everyone can see. I know I shouldnt be so ashamed, but I am. I came here hoping to find some strength and to get out of this funk!

Posted on May 4, 2009 at 12:10pm 1 Comment

Androgenetic Alopecia is what the doctor said. She said to start using mens 5% Rogaine. Takes 6 mnths to take effect. Genetics. Wasnt quite what I had in mind when I heard the word Inheritance.

So now, I guess I hop on here and google and figure out more about this condition. At least I know now, right? Thats a good thing. And... My stiches are out of my head. Good thing #2.

I was hoping it was something easily fixed. Blah.

So I went to see Lisa Williams last night and had to wear a wig. I tried the old "comb over" but with the stiches in my head and the ever growing patches of bald spots I could not do it. I have a human hair wig. So I washed and styled it and hoped for the best.

Hot - does not describe it. Does anyone else ever feel like EVERYONE knows your wearing a wig or parts of the lace part are showing? Paranoid about itching a scratch on your head and feeling the whole thing move? lol So there… Continue

Hello and welcome, Joy!
I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" You can find out more on my page -- and it's available on this site under "Bookshelf." Let me know if there's anything else I can do!
