You are right about the fact that teenage years are hard enough without alopecia. I think that is one time in your life you never forget.
I can understand how you feel looking in the mirror. That is how Jon feels. That he isnt the same person. I tell him that he is the same person inside but the exterior has changed. I guess, to a degree, that is how you feel when you start aging and your appearance changes.
I have heard good things about the freedom wigs. I have asked Jon if he would like a wig and he says no. Maybe he will change his mind - hard to tell with him. He is depressed a the moment. Sometimes i think things would be easier for him if he had a wig.
I think no matter at what age you get alopecia it would be very difficult adjusting to as our appearance is who we are to others.

I live in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. Not that far from Brisbane.
My son, Jon, has had Alopecia since he was 6. Now 13.
