I'm a Hairstylist/Technician who's experienced with working with those who suffer from hairloss due to the different types of alopecia and chemotherapy patients. Through my work and clients I've learned that people who suffer from alopecia have questions about where to find wigs, how to care for them and so on. I'm here to help if I can by sharing the information I've gathered through my experience or may be able to refer you to those who can.
Hi Coco, most clients that wear a wig or hairpiece aren't comfortable taking off their wigs/pieces around other clients. Especially those who are non- hair replacement clients in a regular salon. Believe it or not the non -replacement clients aren't comfortable either. Not because they feel " nah nah.. I have hair and she doesn't!" Quite the opposite they actually feel guilty in a sense for having hair. When I worked in salons that dealt with Strictly Hair Replacement clients, those who had no hair loss, that were coming in for hair extensions felt vain and ungrateful for having hair and not being 100% happy with the quality, length etc. Usually when I work on a wig or hair piece, the client usually drops it off and picks it up once it's done... another day or an hour later or I will work on it after hours. I am currently in the process of re-locating into a space with private rooms strictly for hair relacement clients. My fees are all on my website www.glamandtease.com. There are very few Hair professionals who can work with Hair pieces and/or wigs. Some are more expensive than others. However, it is time consuming with no room for error. If you mess it up, not only are you throwing away someone's investment you have ruined the one thing that for many is the difference between wether or not they leave the house for work or socially. I'll be happy to give you some tips via email... ask away.
Cheers,
Jen
HI there I live in toronto and it's been hard to find someone that will style my lace wigs I have alopecia totalis so takin off my wigs in front of others who are styling there own hair is not really comfortable for me. And also I don't understand why it cost so much to get a lace wig styled compared to stylin hair if it were my own, I mean $150 for a cut and style is RIDICULOUS especially when the most I look for is bangs with some layering. I was hoping maybe seein how you are a hairstylist you would have some suggestions or tips in helpin me? I'd greatly appreciate it Thanks :)
