Welcome to Alopecia World. I had locs too when I began to develop AU. I had a huge bald spot in the middle of my head which a pony tail could no longer cover up. I had to start wearing a wig but could not get one over the locs so I HAD to cut my hair off to make it work. I was forced to make the transition but it was the most freeing experience in the world. No longer was I waiting for my hair to fall out, I was taking control of the situation and owning it. I did not have to babysit the mirror anymore. I was free to move on with my life and close the chapter that was closing anyway but on my terms. Think about giving yourself the gift of freedom. You will realize that there a beautiful you waiting for you under the locs waiting to be uncovered! We cant change our Alopecia situation but we can ALWAYS change the way we feel about it and choose to deal with it. Many blessings on your journey. We are  here for you ;) One Love!
