About Me:
Hello, I 'm Sarah. I have alopecia universialis. I started losing patches of hair when I was 1 year old and it went downhill from there. At the end of the first grade I had gone completely bald and I have been that way ever since. Since I live in a small town, I didn't get teased or picked on alot but elementary school was still tough. But through it all I made great friends who don' t look at the outside but focas on the inside. I went to Chapel Hill for treatment back in 2005 but when they started sticking my head with 8 injections over one square inch, I was out of there and decided it wasn't worth it. I wore a wig off and on in elementary school, but I never would keep it on. I felt that I should just face it head on (no pun intended), I wear a bandanna at school now. In 2007 I grew eyelashes and eyebrows and kept them for awhile but they have recently started falling out. Now I have only half of one eyebrow. I don't shave my legs since I only get one or two hairs every now and then. I try to keep positive about it because it could be way worse, but I do cry sometimes espescially when I here the song "Skin" by Rascal Flatts. I think that the wose part is, is that sometimes I feel like I am alone. I have never met anyone with alopecia, thats why I am so excited to find this website. Almost everywhere I go, I get the cancer question. "Are you going through chemo?" and each time I respond "No, I have alopecia, which makes my hair fall out". But its tough getting those questions, because usually the question asker has some awesome cancer survival story, and I just don't have hair. I try not to think about those things and take life one day at a time. I have an awesome family, and church family that I can always turn to and I am very thankful for that. I'm, like I said before, very excited about this website because hopefully I will get to meet people who maybe undersand what I'm going through. :)
