I was diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis 14 years ago. It was noticed by my hairdresser when I had my hair done. I had an eraser sized spot on one side of my scalp. She pointed to it and said,"You better get to the dermatologist quickly". Within a month, I had lost 1/4 of my waist length hair. The remaining hair, I shed one evening while showering 2 weeks later. The rest of my body hair was lost eventually within a couple months including eyebrows, eyelashes, and my body hair. My family was devastated but I called myself The Alien Baby! Haha.
I have adapted to this new me embracing my challenge. Although, it is difficult and there are days when we all know someone suspects or questions our appearance, I try to be brave and handle our challenge with dignity and grace. I ask myself, would I be gifted in this way if I were not able to understand and handle it? I still seek a cure but will never limit my life because of my appearance.
