Hello and welcome, Tomiko!
I can help you out a little with your questions. I wrote a book on alopecia called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" so I did a lot of research. The latest findings are that alopecia is genetic, and caused by eight genes. It can be dormant until it's triggered by something: hormone changes, illness, shock are some things that can cause the onset of alopecia. As yet there is no cure. Sometimes it goes away on its own, and other times it progresses. Let me know how else I can help.
